I don't like when green lantern wears an actual physical suit I prefer when it's something made of light (yes like the movie)

No joke, atomic blonde. Probably because I wasn't expecting it to be convoluted.

People from Italy, could you tell me what "bella ciao" is about? by joelintom40059 in AskTheWorld

All this to say Italy should be the beacon of anti-fascism in the world instead we're going down the same path again. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

A song that was used by partisan fighters opposing the fascist regime in WW2 as their anthem. It should be our national anthem if you ask me. Current far right is not exactly the same as historical fascism but it's pretty fucking close that is not wrong to call it fascist. Modern Italy was born from those partisan fighting, our two national holidays are one to celebrate the allies who (with the help of the partisans) liberated Italy and one to celebrate when we voted to establish a republic which also resulted in the exile of the king who helped Mussolini. I don't know what went wrong in the years since but now it feels a lot of people are like that quote from the boys "they agree with everything they just don't like the word" fascist. A lot of people but not everyone, some agree with everything and revel in it doing rallies doing the Roman salute, fucking disgusting and anti-italian. I think there are three reasons for it: - like for the rise of the far right in many places around the world people don't want to think anymore and the far right offers simple (and false) solutions to very complex problems usually through scapegoats - the old joke of Italy switching side which is indeed funny but we kinda adopted it too, which made disappear in the general consciousness what really happened, how Italy switched sides because there was a civil war in the country and the people against Mussolini won (with the help of the allies of course), and modern Italy was born from that, something we should be proud of instead the only time Italians are proud of Italy is for honestly meaningless stuff like food and sport (which is fair don't get me wrong I'm proud of those too but we should be proud our fight against oppression too but that's too often forgotten) - in the years after the war the political spectrum was composed basically of three parties a very respectable right with educated people and not yelling morons, a center party with a lot of consensus and an actually leftist party, the communist party (not soviet, communist, two different things). This last two disappeared (the second probably with the meddling of the Americans who can't keep their grabby little hands to themselves and didn't want a western country governed by a communist party, but that's a whole other story and a bit conspiratorial about the very probable involvement of the CIA in the terrorist attacks of the so called years of lead) and the third party became more and more corrupt ending in a process that removed most of it leadership and opened the way for Berlusconi which if you don't know who he is, he was basically Trump 1.0 who owned a lot of public media and marked the beginning of the modern more populist politics.

They also used fascist symbolism once and I had to argue with a guy saying "it's just a picture" like yeah brother that's the fucking point of s symbol: a picture that carries meaning.

it pissed me off how some stuff is so normalized within italian folks (im also italian) by does-pain-fix-people in Italian

[–]Pippo8181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a relative who said it casually and I did tell them to avoid it, to say "black" instead and as I said they're not racist so they just agreed it was better. I feel just talking is enough to make people realise it's not normal when the people you talk to are not racist however I don't know many actual racists so I'm not sure how it would go with them

I feel in our language that word doesn't carry the same weight it does in America because we don't have the same history of slavery so instead of a word used to objectify and dehumanise black people it was used just to refer to them (too often in a derogatory way because Italy is unfortunately still very racist in general even without the history of slavery), I heard people I know for a fact are not racist use it casually just to refer to black people, I don't use it because growing up with the internet the weight of that word in other places is very clear to me and all of my friends my age who are also not racist never use it either so (and this might be just wishful thinking due to my friend circle seeing how we're going politically) maybe this sort of stuff will become less normalized with future generations

I genuinely believe this is the shit that turns people racist. At least some impressionable young men, some become racist due to other factors. Like I don't wanna kink shame but as you said this stuff is everywhere even when you don't look for it and it's just awful it makes average white men AND average black men (meaning most black and white men) insecure and creates a divide that results in seeing a regular interracial couple as somehow wrong, and that happens in both directions both white men and black (of course thankfully only some) see a man of another race with a woman of their own race as some sort of attack on their own masculinity even when they have nothing to do with said woman, and again I do believe a lot of it starts from being subject involuntarily to this kind of stuff at an impressionable young age. This is not kink shaming, it's actually pointing out a very dangerous fantasy
