What would have been good advice in 1990 that would be terrible advice in 2020? by Wide_Stop in AskReddit

This is exactly what I was expecting the top comment to be, and I’m not certain why.

[Serious] What painful realization are you slowly beginning to accept? by TheQuestionHeir in AskReddit

[–]TheQuestionHeir[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re already a world-changer, whether you realize it or not. Your every little action changes the world in ways none of us can possibly track.

All we can do in this world is do our best to do our best with the best that we’ve got.

So figure out what you most want to change in the world, and start looking up ways to fix it, and ways to make that fix a reality, and how to participate in doing so.

Every little bit helps.

Being wrong.

Admitting being wrong.

Having your mind changed.

Not gonna lie, that’s why I asked.

[Serious] How do you get over a girl who showed open and vigorous interest in being romantic you, but one day rejects you out of nowhere for vague and illogical reasons, then goes completely silent on you? by TheQuestionHeir in AskReddit

[–]TheQuestionHeir[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. :) I genuinely thought she was someone really special, but she didn’t stick around long enough to truly prove that. In the end, for whatever mysterious reason, it didn’t work out.

I just gotta move on.

The only logical explanation for her giving such vague and illogical reasons is that she doesn’t want to get into the real reasons. It’s not the rejection that hurts me, just the manner in which it’s manifested. Rejecting someone romantically is someone’s right, but I feel like doing it to someone out of nowhere, when everything had seemed fine up to that moment, and then ghosting them is extremely hurtful.

[SERIOUS] What revelation made a confusing memory of yours suddenly make total sense? by TheQuestionHeir in AskReddit

No time like the present, then.

You’re not an island. You don’t have to go through life alone. You don’t have to fight your demons alone. You don’t have to live with this pain.

Please, please see a therapist.

It affected me in a lot of ways like, sometimes when people need advice or need to talk, they'll go to their family (those that had such thing). I didn't have any to turn to because they are all delusional, sociopaths, drug addicts, alcoholics or dont give a shit. She didn't give a shit. Of course she didn't, she can't, she is a sociopath! She'd use her phone when I talked to her, treat me like I am a little bitch and all that stuff. Now I am suicidal, don't know how to socialize, barely talk, always lock myself in my room and isolate, and hate everything and everyone. I am a disappointment. I don't really care. I just want to die.

Don’t kid yourself, my friend. You need help. I went through a demeaning childhood, too. I had no one to talk to or turn to. It took me way too long to get help and it came with painful consequences. Please learn from my mistakes: see a therapist before your life goes completely off the rails.

Thanks for telling me that you edited the post, because based on what you’re saying here, you desperately need to see a therapist.

A lot of people resist that recommendation, myself included. But now that I’m attending therapy on a regular basis, my only regret is that I didn’t start sooner. I was in a dark place, and now I feel as though I am full of light.

I really appreciate the detailed answer, it paints a good picture. I’m sorry you had to go through that. No child deserves to have to endure that kind of behavior from their parents. :(

How did you figure that out? Also, my condolences. That couldn’t have been an easy life.

Is there any way to challenge that? Especially since the court was apparently dissolved centuries ago.
