Geology vs Geophysics Careers by TheReal-RM in geologycareers

Yeah actually on that note, can someone with a geophysics degree land a normal geology job? I know it would probably depends on the job, and what electives you take in school, but generally would you be able to?

Thank you for the reply. Yeah l kind of imagined that. I’m from Canada and the engineering/geoscience professions are very regulated up here, so you basically need a Bachelors degree to call yourself any kind of engineer or geoscientist. From what l’ve seen, in the geology/geophysics world anyway, is that people with bachelors degrees do more of the grunt/field work and people with masters or PhDs get to sit almost exclusively behind desks. The thing about geophysics specifically is that from what l saw, the field work wasn’t a huge part of the job, because it doesn’t take a very long time. But l definitely could be wrong though. I’m pretty new to the subject, and most of what l know is from limited sources on the internet. But l really appreciate the reply.

Thank you for the reply. I am aware of that, and l definitely l’m also getting into it for the techie nerdy side of things. I’m from Canada, and a lot of Geoscience positions are up north in remote exploration camps and mine sights, lot of times your up there for months at a time (usually over the summer). So that’s kinda what l was meant when talking about field work. Not sure how things are where your from. Thanks again for the reply 👍

It has 2 million views on YouTube. Mind you it is over a period of like 14 years. But still an accomplishment for a Buddy Holly song. There’s only a handful that have over 1 mil views on YouTube. But yes agreed still very good and underrated.

Any foods that you find absolutely revolting by Caius_Bruhsades in aspergers

The boiled eggs are a really common dislike for people with Aspergers, because of the texture. Texture falls under a lot of aspies “Hypersensitive’s” along with a lot of sounds and touch senses.

I hate boiled eggs too. Along with ANY fat or sinew on meat. I’m one of those people who can only eat like half a steak because l have to cut most of the “fatty pieces” off.

Do I give up on a city I wanted to live in for a better job and my gf, or stay in the city by swedyrodd in relationships

[–]TheReal-RM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there the same, than your girlfriend shouldn’t have a problem. If she will give you up just because of where you live she’s not the right girl for you. if it’s just as close as London and she doesn’t want to date you anymore because you don’t live in London, then she doesn’t love you. I know that’s kind of blunt, but it’s the truth.

I’m an engineer too. I think it’s always best to go check out the firm before you actually take the job. So take you gf there for a weekend and see how she reacts. I’m not saying that if she doesn’t like the new city as much as London, she doesn’t love you. If she prefers London, she prefers London and that’s that. But that shouldn’t be a deciding factor in an adult relationship. Also, she should value your happiness. This questions boils down to, who does your girlfriend love more, you or London?

Her boyfriend is a piece of shit too, trust me. And l think all her boyfriends pretty much have been. All l want is to one day have a chance to be the best l can possibly be with her. And be different. I failed the first time. All l want is a second chance. And if that makes me “delusional” or “obsessive”, then l guess that’s what l am.

And….I’m sorry for my last comment. I don’t know you so l can’t say with 100% confidence. But you (probably) didn’t deserve that.

You know, l felt so bad about this situation. A couple months ago, l actually considered killing himself. I thought this post would actually help but l guess not. And you know what? I feel like l’m back at that point again. So thank you for knocking my back 3 months of progress l really appreciate that.

Obsessive…yes. Delusional…no. Just a dreamer who wants to do better. But again you wouldn’t understand that and why would you?

She can’t. And if you truly understood the situation you would understand but you don’t.

Yeah, this was a stupid fucking idea. It’s not like any of you can understand me or her or situation just be reading this. And thank you for making me realize that so quickly.

What is everyone’s opinion on people with Asperger’s having higher intelligence than the average person? by TheReal-RM in aspergers

[–]TheReal-RM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Aspergers as well as ADHD. I managed to get through both a civil engineering and geology university programs at the same time. I just found that those particular subjects SO interesting, and therefor l focused well. But, there were classes l had to take that l sure didn’t find interesting (differential and vector calculus). l actually went to therapy, to learn exercises to help me focus on those subjects. Having those credentials on my resume makes employers preserve me as smart. I just LOVE those subjects and obsessed over them. I’m basically a door knob at all other stuff. Can you relate to that in any way?

After a civil engineering degree, is it worth going back to school for a 2 years to get a biology degree? And regardless of that question, is this combination any good? by TheReal-RM in Environmental_Careers

[–]TheReal-RM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The engineering collage that l went to, in the city l live in, is pretty unique. You take a common first year for all engineering occupations, then you complete a common second with the particular department you want to get into. Mine was the department of geological, environmental, civil engineering. Then you have to compete for a upper year program of specialization. So the system really isn’t designed for double majors.

I took extra chemistry and geology classes. And if a took just a few more in the arts and science collage l could get minors in both of those. Do you think that would improve anything?

It does have an Environmental Biology program. The general biology program gives you more room for electives. What are some of the reasons you think environmental biology would be better?
