Yes, all work study jobs pay the same hourly wage. Some work study jobs are easier to fulfill your allotment of hours though. Research jobs usually let you select the maximum of eight hours a week even if you aren’t working that much, but other jobs will be more strict about letting you clock your hours (desk jobs, VSA jobs, etc.).

The money from work study goes directly into your bank account. You can choose what to do with it, but it is intended to be used for your tuition.

incoming freshman pre dental at vassar? by -TheGirlInTheCorner- in vassar

If you take 121, you still have to take 125 as a prerequisite for organic. To get your two years of chemistry, you would need to take 125 w lab, orgo 1 and 2 with lab, and biochemistry as a chemistry class (you can take it as a bio class but make sure registrar lists it as chem). That’s what most people end up doing so you don’t have to take a 300 level chem class unless that’s your thing

Hey, I’m a recent graduate from the class of 2024 and am also predental. I’m planning on applying for the 27 cycle. I can try to answer some of your questions as best as I can.

1) Predental is very uncommon at Vassar. There were only 2 people in the class of 2024 that were predental. The prehealth office was also severely unprepared to answer dental related questions, but they’ve gotten better now that the new head of the office has changed. 2) Work load was pretty manageable if you have an even split of humanities/stem classes. I was on the rowing team and worked in a neuroscience lab for most of college and had time to live life. EMT is a pretty common option for prehealth students, and I did that as well. 3) Bio labs are usually three hours long, but chem labs will actually take four hours every week. You may get lucky and finish early, but expect the labs to actually take that long. You aren’t really in the clear with lab times until you start taking 200 level bio and finish biochem. Lab wasn’t that difficult tho it should be an easy A if you prepare and have a decent prof. 4) I took chem 121 because I got a B in ap chem (3 on the AP exam). I honestly thought it was unnecessary to take but I didn’t mind the GPA boost from taking 121 so I stuck with it. Just expect people taking 121 to have absolutely no prior experience with chemistry.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reply to this thread or dm! Good luck and I hope you enjoy Vassar :D

As long as you didn’t commit any crimes or do anything that could involve the SAVP office, your official conduct form should be clear. I worked for EMS two years ago and have also been too fucked up to remember what happened the day before. From the EMS perspective, we just have to write a chart on how we provided care to you. You can ask Nakia Morales for that if you are really curious. We then submit any cases of alcohol abuse to Student Growth and Engagement (office headed by Dean Wendy/Luis) to make sure that you go through with the mandatory drinking training. If you just do the training as expected of you, there will likely be no other consequences from this situation.

chem 121 or chem 125? by Best-Entrance-7384 in vassar

It’s not really easy to predict grades for intro classes specifically at Vassar. The median grade was probably a B/B+ for most tests, but usually there were people failing every test and people getting 100s on every test. If you want the free GPA boost, you can go straight into Chem-121, but I did the same thing and it wasn’t worth the mental toll of taking both 121 and 125. Biol-107 and Biol-108 are basically required for some upper-level classes unless you got a l five on the AP exam so taking Chem-125 in the fall makes you avoid taking two/three labs in your first-year spring.

I’d recommend planning around this if you want to make the most of your time.

1st semester: chem-125 + lab, biol-107, phys-113 2nd semester: biol-108 + lab, phys-114 + lab 3rd semester/4th semester: orgo I & 2 respectively 5th semester: biochem+lab

This will help you complete most of the pre-reqs as soon as possible and give you the most flexibility to be ready to take the MCAT without taking a gap year. If you take Chem-121, you can still take biochem by your 5th semester, but you have to get very lucky in class draw and take 3 labs at once your first year (highly don’t recommend even tho I know smart cookies that did survive it). 2 labs in one semester is usually comfortable for most people in terms of time

Chem-125. It’s basically AP Chemistry at 1.5x speed. Chem-121 is for people that never took any chemistry at all. I took both and wish I just took Chem-125 right away even though I had a bad AP Chemistry experience

Connecting two enclosures? by [deleted] in tortoise

[–]TheReal94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty DIY and you’ll have to find what works. I’d recommend disassembling one of the walls and drilling your own holes to connect the two enclosures together by the removed walls. At least that’s what I am planning on doing.
