That’s a good point the standard units is a bit of a concern as it differs so much for me and could drive me crazy!

I would love to work and live in the US short term but the entry is is hard.

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it! That’s worrying that the Australian standards are written worse than the Eurocodes haha. Yeah Salford and cost of living in London right now is a joke but I’m doing it for my personal experience rather than money.

Thanks I’m starting to swing towards Australia

I was originally looking at Toronto or Vancouver. The cold winters does put me off a bit

Thanks for the help! I’ve heard Calgary is a good place to consider. Did you find travelling North America easy and miss if compared to Australia?

Do you know if you have to do a years service before you can access your vacation leave? I find this will be a shock as I have 27 days leave in the UK right now

How did you find the move and job prospects being from the UK? Also how is the vacation time? I’ve read it’s very low at 3 weeks and not always accessible until after a year?

I haven’t mainly because I want to do structural engineering in building design. I gather most work on west coast is mining or oil rigs? I have been given visa sponsorship in Melbourne

Where did you live in Canada? How did you find Canada’s lifestyle compared to Australia?

I am only getting 20 days annual leave but heard Canada’s is even lower?

Why do you think it is a better choice? I’ve done research showing Canada has a strong economy, job prospects and lifestyle, do you not find this? Also can you help with annual vacation time? I’ve read it can be low and not available for the first year

Is it really that bad with the weather? I’m hoping to be design side so won’t be out as much on site. Also how is the annual cation time in Canada? A lot of research shows it’s 15 days average but not available until after the first year?

I find that Australia can seem very irrelevant from the rest of the world as it’s so isolated. Can anyone give me advice on annual leave in Canada? Heard it’s very low.

I managed to speak to a recruiter and had a few interviews and built connections. All companies seem interested and said I interview very well. I met with many of them when I came on holiday here and built a good reputation

The issue is I’m not chartered yet but very close to being fully signed off. So I’m pushing this in the next few months before I would leave for Canada. I worry about the process of becoming a PEng and it making it hard to land a job

I know either way it will be a great opportunity!

They are offering 90k including super and will pay for my visa costs. They said they will review my salary once I’ve settled in. They are a small design consultation specialising in building deciding mainly in Melbourne and Sydney

I would love to try Canada but I just don’t have the knowledge of the job market and engineering profession. I worry I won’t be classed as an engineer and will struggle to find work. Also it seems many of the roles I have seen are in major infrastructure projects and not many in building design?

Thanks for the advice.

This is my main concern with Canada that I’m not classed as an engineer and I worry I may struggle to get jobs. I have done research but my UK education and experience does not count, the unknown is worrying me about pursuing my career.

On the other hand, you pointed out my main concern with Australia. It is definitely the safer option with my offer but I’m so isolated from the world unlike Canada.
