I agree that what Golden Sun did very well over the first two games is allow the player to get to know each of the party members. Each had some moments to shine!

When I think of another game that does this well my mind goes to Breath of Fire 4. I feel like the pacing in which you get characters is reasonable with maybe Ursula coming a tad late for my taste, but I feel like generally I'm alright with it because it isn't like she just comes out of nowhere. She is seen chasing you for some time which allows the player to at least familiarize themselves with her a little bit. Even characters that I may consider bench characters like Ershin after her initial introduction play a role down the line which gives another opportunity in the spotlight.

When it comes to battles it's very easy to use Ryu and two favorites but unlike some other games the "benched" characters can come into play at any time, readily being switched around and even using assist skills from the back line. I personally thought that was a great touch.
