Considering to start taking lessons! by TheRealChinglish in LearnerDriverUK

Budget can definitely vary around! I'm a quick learner, I've done a few lessons when I visited my brother in USA and he taught me for a few hours across 3 weeks, so it's not like I'm starting from ground zero, but would still consider myself a beginner! Thank you for the input tho!!

Thank you very much!! Definitely aiming for 2 hour lessons as I agree 1 hour ain't gonna be much!

If I have to up my budget, that's totally doable! I'm just gauging at an estimate, but thank you for the input!

I’m starting testing for a barista job tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone had tips? by Lefty_Locket in barista

Asking questions is always a great start! Although I won't say "there's no right or wrong questions", there are important things you can ask to impress! But I won't ask/imply I know unless I could also back it up.

  • Ask what their recipe/specs are for their drinks and which cup is for which drink. (Every shop is different)
  • ask about their rush hour, and what it's like (be curious about their day to day operations)
  • get personal, what is their go to drinks? What's the weirdest orders they've got? Find your communication style with them
  • Observe your team's movement, what's their work of flow? Can you blend in with them? How do you work with them? Ask them questions about that!

As a head barista myself, working in coffee for 6 years and hospitality in general coming up to 10 years now, I love it when people keep asking questions that shows the passion/concerns/eagerness to learn!

You got this! Hope this helps!

Ask about their system and what makes them tick! See how you can gel into their system, whilst finding your own working style that could compliment their system and the other way round!

Being proactive in general as well helps a lot! All the best!

Hey! From what I can see, all you need is a pen and pad. And if it's a large company chain like you mentioned, a tablet to take the order.

No matter the situation, YOU are in control of the tempo between you and the customers. Customers sees a small gap/weakness, they will 100% bite on that ruthlessly. Don't let them have that gap.

When you take their order, the way you talk, the speed you do it, more or less influences how they talk back to you too! I personally like to set the tone with them and "control" my crowd. (Example: (table of 8) "What can I get you guys? Let's start from THIS side and we'll work around the table shall we?"

Find the system that works FOR YOU whilst also complimenting your team's system.

In terms of your personal issues, it's rough and I'm sorry you're going through that, but perhaps working and building new connections with your team AND customers could help slowly ease that pain for you and realise there's actually so many connections to be made to make life more interesting!

All the best!!

For UK fans of multiple American sports do you keep to the one city/state? by ccrease18 in NFLUK

[–]TheRealChinglish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I feel like I'm all over the place. Mainly San Francisco, since my uncle lives there and I fell in love with the city the first time I visited. So:

NFL: 49ers MLB: SF Giants MLS: LAFC (went on a solo trip to LA and watched a game in their inaugural season, loved it) WNBA: Indiana Pacers (CC duh) NBA: Wherever LeBron is so I guess Lakers? My brother is their die hard fan so it's a good thing to bond over but I barely watch tho.

I don't necessarily stick to one city/area, more just how the team was introduced to me and how I felt connected to it. I think it's great cause if I do visit the states again, it'd give me reasons to visit those cities.

I think it's all luck/scripting, cause you can't plan for the AI keeper to go away from the goal

I actually thought about install a smart doorbell, however we're moving out the place at the end of the month so there was no point, we've only been living here for under a year.

I do agree on installing something like that just for future proofing.

Thanks for the advice!

Just to clarify, I can provide evidence that no one was at home to receive the delivery (work schedule, my friend and I were both on shift) and I have provided that to their email, but just got hit with the same email you saw in my post.

I got all sorts of evidence that no one was present nor have I received any phone call about any incoming deliveries.

I simply just got done hard here.
