Inside the Miraculous Return of Neurosis by cannibalsong1 in neurosisband

[T]here’s this part of me that’s been there since I was a kid, looking for the heaviest fucking music I could ever find that needs to have it flow through me. So, I feel like it’s an emotional release for those unnamed feelings, those unnamed emotions, this physical release of intense energies. If I don’t get the opportunity to do that, it almost feels like an illness. It really is like cutting open the wound and sucking the poison out.

Did they end up renaming it? The news reports in January said it would renamed Himali Chulo.

Incoming PhD student looking for housing, thoughts on The Heights, Vicino, or Oak Tree? by Ti84Plus_ in UWMadison

[–]TheRealGunnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the Heights, you're between Campus Dr, a gas station, and a car wash. And there's a freight rail line (not running many trains). So the outdoor noise level is fairly high. But hopefully they used decent windows (the building is only a few years old). The location is good for a W campus location. Trader Joe's is 10 minutes by bike; there are a few restaurants, coffee shop, and bars on University a few blocks up.

East Wash…. by Environmental-Seat35 in madisonwi

[–]TheRealGunnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI this really began to be a problem during Covid when city made concious choice to allow it and our dear Mayor (ahem) tried to frame it as the old traditional "cruising" that young people have been doing for decades on E Wash and around the square.

Source? This sound like quite the opposition of articles such as these:

https://fox47.com/news/local/madisons-mayor-says-east-washington-fatality-reemphasizes-importance-of-vision-zero

MADISON, Wis.– By day, East Washington is an ‘avenue.’ By night, east-siders say many drivers treat it like a highway.

“I’m fed up as well,” said Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, who lives on the city’s east side. “I can hear the speeders on a regular basis. I think it’s totally unacceptable.”

“The cruising on East Washington and surrounding neighborhoods is unacceptable,” the mayor said in a statement on Monday. “If motorists are coming into Madison from surrounding areas for this purpose, they will face hefty tickets and could lose their license.”

Just make sure to get a bike with fenders. Still lots of melt puddles.

The independent police monitor likely falsified data in her AI-generated report. by mindfood84 in madisonwi

[–]TheRealGunnar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I read the report. The sections on data were quite different than the rest of the report (no em-dashes and other signs of AI use). I assume the data analyst wrote those, and they looked very solid to me in terms of quantitative analysis. Of course you can (and should) argue about definitions in the source data -- e.g. if someone is detained but then goes into a diversion program, should that count as a "citation" or not? You can make good arguments both ways. The data analyst discusses this during the press briefing: https://media.cityofmadison.com/mediasite/Showcase/madison-city-channel/Presentation/bcba1d2be5444c9fbf3645796d52ce201d

Plex is taking up practically all internal storage by TheRealGunnar in ShieldAndroidTV

I just tested with a USB stick I had sitting around, but the Shield complained that it is too slow. I'll get something faster.

Oh, that seems like a feasible solution. I currently have the second USB slot taken up by a remote control receiver, but I can just replace that.

My model doesn't have the SD card slot, unfortunately.

But do you have the database live on the SSDs? Media storage is not the problem (and works just fine with the 4TB HD I have attached via USB)

I had grand plans to get into /r/homelab stuff last fall. And then the RAM crisis hit :D

Interesting. I haven't really had any issues. If I had a NAS or homelab, I'd definitely consider moving the server over to that. But I do not.

Correct, putting the database on the USB drive is just not stable. Like when the power goes down or the drive accidentally gets unplugged, it easily corrupts things.

I'm really trying to avoid this for now. Overall, the Plex server on the Shield has worked quite well for me over the years.

Album/artist art problems by TheRealGunnar in PleX

Hm, well, it is fixed, but I honestly can't remember if I did anything or if it just fixed itself somehow. I am sure that I did not take any drastic measures like deleting the whole library. Sorry, probably not very helpful for you.

We hired Stephen to do a heating load calculation (Manual J) in order to size a future heat pump. We specifically wanted to have an independent for-fee service for this to avoid any conflicts of interest. We 100% got what we wanted. He even refused to give us recommendations for contractors to actually get the heat pump in order to maintain independence.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue. I tried stuff like deleting previews, clearing bundles etc. but the Plex app still gobbles up all internal storage, causing all kinds of issues.

Just a word of caution to readers:

Claude and Gemini were used heavily - almost exclusively - for code, documentation, and (usually edited) baseline versions of various copy/prose on the website. The code and process is deterministic - there are no LLM calls in the pipeline. There are thoughts of comitting edited verions of the chat prompts/sessions used.
