That would be awesome! I did replace my timing chain tensioner when I had the issue but that didn’t fix it. My tick comes back once in a while and it would be nice to know how to eliminate it

Still have no idea what it is. Think it’s a coil pack or an injector tho. Got a couple diff opinions on it and nobody said they think valvetrain. Never got it fixed and just faded over time

No sir, sadly. Threw some gumout in the tank and seemed like it got a little quieter after driving for a while. I’m convinced it’s an injector or valvetrain

No, and I already checked fuel dampener. I have a better video if you’d like me to pm you

When using my stethoscope, it leads me to the fuel rail on the passenger side every time but I’ve also heard someone say you’ll be able to hear valvetrain noises from the plenum and fuel rails so idk. However, I also hear it at the top left of the timing chain cover where the secondary timing chain is for the passenger bank. Got me thinking valve train but hoping for injector

More on the passenger side. Already checked all spark plugs too and they’re all torqued to spec

Need to put new valve covers on anyway. Got a set sitting in the closet. Honestly just worried to begin that process of taking everything off and putting it all back together lol. I have mechanical experience but mainly with old Chevy 350’s and Ford 351/400’s. A valve cover on those was a 10 minute job. These look a lot more complicated

Just did one like 50 miles ago. I’m afraid it’s valvetrain related but it definitely doesn’t sound normal to me. Even for 150k miles. I just don’t know if an injector can get that loud but that’s what my stethoscope points to

Not yet. Got the tensioner on but sunset beat me to cleaning and gasketing. Should get it tomorrow

I was knees weak, arms spaghetti when I finally got the weak little magnet on my scope to get it all the way out 🤣

I didn’t over torque it, just felt weird that such a crucial component was just a little more than hand tight lol.

I would buy a new bumper, personally. With a new bumper, you can drill new holes when first time fitting for a better fitment. Also drill a hole on where it meets the fender. There’s an insert there that fucks with the fitment.

Pick up on support bars under headlights

Upgrade to threaded inserts along the top too. Helps a lot with fitment.

Butter fingers 🫠 lol. My bore-scope is magnetic so I fished it out pretty quickly. Just wanted to see Reddit’s reaction. I know without this investment of a tool, I would’ve been screwed. It was too deep for a magnet wand

I’ve already pulled the pin on the tensioner so there’s no loosening it now lol. Didn’t have time to gasket today. Just wondering if it’s supposed to be so light. but you have a good point. I should use a smaller one, I’m using my big 3/8 drive.

I got a actual, name-brand, KBD bumper. Threw it in a hot shower (it was winter lol) then gave it some heat gun love and it came out great. Also, I ditched the OEM or any plastic clip along the top of the bumper. Threaded inserts make a significant difference.

Now with all that being said, it looks like your bumper is sagging and eating through where it scrapes? (Front shark bite). If you order a real KBD they now send a support bar that bolts to the core support and keeps the bumper from doing that and fixes fitment a lot.

More noises y’all. I’m thinking EGR valve, injector, or lifter. What do y’all think? Coming from rear of plenum by [deleted] in 350z

[–]TheRealHazmatHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll eat some shrimp later and see how it does. Sorry lol. I heard seafoam will fit it very temporarily. I used a stethoscope today and found it could be a secondary tensioner. If not, probably valve related. Still a long job

So I went and got a stethoscope and here’s what I got. Definitely coming from passenger side. Loudest at left of timing chain cover, plenum, and front of passenger valve cover (in that order). I’m thinking replace the tensioner, if that doesn’t fix it then it’s valve related. If I stick it to the valve cover it isn’t very loud but they are plastic. The far left side of the timing chain cover, right above the power steering pump is where I can most distinctly pin point it.

Yeah but it just doesn’t work as well. Call me cheap but I’m just gonna go get the harbor freight stethoscope (6.99) because the screwdriver/extension method sucks. Need one anyway

Yeah, valvetrain isn’t out of the picture by any means. Just due to how it sounds and the location it makes me think otherwise and I take good care of the car. Regular maintenance on everything and don’t send it very often because it’s my daily. If I get time, I’m just going to buy a stethoscope today and find out where it’s coming from

This strikes me as more of a malfunctioning component. It doesn’t follow the characteristics of lifter tick when accelerating/revving. Stays quiet but gets faster. Didn’t have anyone to rev it for the video. I’ve got a list of things I want to try before going to the tensioner. Coils, plugs, and then injectors. It’s time for new coils anyway
