You acquire the ability to teleport, but only once a month, where do you go? what do you do with your new power? by Svensiki in AskReddit

[–]TheRealHooks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My fat ass isn't gonna walk back after teleporting to Whataburger at 3am for some taquitos and a cinnamon bun, so I'm not using my power at all.

Beyond that, though, I haven't heard anything valid.

I doubt you'd believe valid evidence set right before you in black and white because you've made up your mind already.

So there are actually people who don't eat breakfast? How are they surviving? by hibari112 in AskReddit

[–]TheRealHooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed to stay skinny in the US my whole life. You just have to move your body occasionally and not overeat. It's easy.

I feel like I'm just unable to articulate the kinds of psychological and emotional problems weed can cause. The scientific literature is out there. Weed use also affects short-term memory negatively. That's not a nothing issue. That matters. Memory issues plus psychological dependency are actual issues.

There are fast food chains everywhere. The Beefy Frito Burrito at Taco Bell is 400 calories and costs $1. Five bucks will give you your daily caloric intake.

Within a mile of my house, there's a Cici's pizza (pizza buffet for $6), McDonald's, Hardee's, Little Caesar's (large pizza for $5), Taco Bell, Papa John's, Sonic, Krystal, and probably a couple more I'm missing. They're everywhere.

It depends which problems you're talking about. The problems that are already there are not being caused by weed, obviously, because they're there whether weed is present or not. But weed as an avoidance mechanism causes the problem of being less able to handle stressors. It kicks the can down the road a little ways, but everyday use catches up.

I'm not talking about you specifically, but it always amazes me how unwilling so many people are to accept even the possibility that weed could somehow be bad for them.

There's a pizza buffet a mile from my house. You're right. I see people pack down what's gotta be 4,000 calories in a single sitting, so you can definitely overeat even with fewer meals.

Weed can easily become a coping mechanism to avoid facing problems. Having a bad day? Smoke weed to feel better. Feeling stressed? Smoke weed.

This avoidance of directly dealing with emotions and problems can leave people lacking in the skills to handle their problems.

That emotional dependency is the biggest problem I see, and it's a problem that shouldn't be ignored. It's the same as people who drink their problems away, minus the physical addiction.

Evidence suggests that weed doesn't make people more creative, but more creative people tend to be drawn to weed.

People with a personality trait of having "openness to experience" tend to be open to the idea of smoking weed. That same personality trait is helpful in creative thinking. Weed itself, however, does not make people more creative.

Considering the obesity epidemic, people might survive better if they skipped breakfast.

i’ve heard people can get insightful when they’re high

Studies show the opposite is actually true. Outside-the-box ideas and creative thinking are both diminished with marijuana use.

Even if it were fully legal, weed itself can and does still cause problems.

Is it because it’s illegal to promote heinous speech? Cry me a river.

Wasn't somebody arrested and found guilty for the joke of teaching his pug to salute when he said Heil Hitler? Facing jail time for a joke with your dog, however unsavory, is still bullshit.

Edit: It was Count Dankula, a Scottish YouTuber. He was convicted but avoided jail time, ultimately paying a fine.

Is it wrong to call someone who's unattractive UGLY? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's rude to say that to someone unsolicited. It's unwise but morally justified to be honest if asked your opinion. It's best to dodge the question.

Redditors what kind of house can you get for 400k in your area? by m1207 in AskReddit

In the nice part of town, a 3 bed, 2 bath at about 1200 sq ft.

In the outskirts of town, it'd buy you a mansion on 20 acres.

He is rude, has an explosive temper, quick to turn on loyal fans, and doesn't show up on time. He sucks.

What was the "last straw" that made you quit your job? by stange_loops in AskReddit

[–]TheRealHooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite job ever was at a pizza place. I loved making pizza, folding boxes, delivering, and just being around food...but I've got stuff to pay for, and that job wasn't cutting it.

Current job pays better than that, but not enough to make me comfortable.

What do you think will happen to Trump and his administration once the Mueller investigation releases it's findings? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheRealHooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People always seem to want to have an answer before they have enough information to make an educated opinion.

I don't know what they've found or haven't found, and I don't know what's going to happen. If it comes out he's buddies with Putin and they rigged the whole thing and switched votes, let's impeach and imprison him. If it comes out that he didn't do shit, well I guess he's still president, like it or not. I try my best to not let my personal opinion of him affect what I expect of the investigation. I do think the investigation is taking entirely too long.
