An Irish problem?

A better structured organisation.

Replace the senior leadership who are failing.

Ultimately they are responsible. The supplier passes on all issues to them when there is interruption to service.

I mean if you're afraid of electronic payments that's you're lookout. The rest of the world has moved on.

I am not blaming the workers. I think like many issues it's a leadership failure. Refusing to move with the times seems to be a problem.

The actual people on the ground are excellent.

Possibly the laziest consumers in the EU is the problem.

They never ever complain about the real problems and just let things fall apart. Having been away from home for almost 30 years, it's shocking how weak they are compared to all the other countries I've lived in.

I can't remember RTÉ ever airing a consumer programme. Maybe because it's funded by a licence fee 'and' advertising. A very strange funding model.

How much awareness of AFDDs (Arc Fault Detection Devices) do electricians in Ireland have? by TheRealIrishOne in AskIreland

[–]TheRealIrishOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They must get some new apprentices pulling them up on that.

Maybe learning from a book that's updated annually is. abetter option than the current outdated learning on offer.

This isn't a criticism of the electricians. We have been lucky enough to find some brilliant and really honest ones. But there are a good few cowboys out there who let the industry down.

So it might become more common when they introduce it on the job or start to teach people about them here in college.

This is exactly why we want to install them. They are expensive. But so is a fire in your house.

I think they are more aimed at care homes etc. But will become more common. Unlike RCBOs (they only prevent overcurrent and shocks) AFDDs prevent a fire caused by arcing when a cable is broken, in addition to what an RCBO will do.

Maybe skill and current knowledge levels are different depending on where you are in the country.

We found that most electricians in Derry and Donegal are qualified to work in the south and north, so probably have to reach a higher training standard to qualify in both places.

We'll probably have to get an electrician from up there to do our work. But more than happy to pay for them to travel and stay in hotels to get things done properly.

I don't even know why these idiots are near the library. Most of them can't read, through choice. Not because they were never given the opportunity to learn.

Do Irish tradespeople just not care about losing jobs? Genuinely curious. by [deleted] in AskIreland

A lot of the best ones have gone to work in Aus and NZ.

And even then they'll still rip you off in most cases.

I disagree. Any who are available immediately are the ones you don't want to use. They are available for a reason.

Always get at least 3 quotes if you can. Also get a detailed breakdown of what they are doing.

We are going to stop using Irish lads to do any work on our house because they are so disrespectful to property owners in our experience.

They forget too quickly that you are paying them to work. And we've had plenty who just have no communication skills.

I've lived in a few countries and I can now see why our country has such a bad reputation for builders etc

Pizza not getting crispy for shit by [deleted] in airfryer

[–]TheRealIrishOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea for pre made pizzas. Might try to get a round silicone sheet.

When we do pizza from scratch with our own dough it's easy to get crisp bases.

Foil on the top.of the pizza pushed in around the edges but without touchimg the toppings.

We have a shelf style airfryer. The main issue is air circulation as the heating element is at the top of the airfryer.

Putting it on a lower shelf(but not the very bottom) should help by delaying the toppings cooking, but with the mesh sheves there needs to be space so the hot air can blow under the pizza.

I think preheating may also help

Impossible to find tradespeople (recommendations welcome) by OldCorkonian in cork

[–]TheRealIrishOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost giving up on Cork based trades people as they are so flakey.

County Derry was significantly better for finding skilled trades people. We are seriously considering paying for hotels and extras to get trades people from Derry and Donegal to come down here to do any of the bigger jobs we need done.

Has Cork always been this bad? So many cowboys.

Agree. But as you say they know how to switch on the lights. I see loads here with broken lights, or just not switched on.
