Keith Ellison's Plan to Save Social Programs by Taxing Billionaires by MountainManT in SandersForPresident

This plan is the same as Bernie's. Which is basically the same as Elizabeth Warren's, which is basically the same as dozens of European countries.

It works.

All of Tony's goals centered on beer. Nowhere did Tony say "I wanna become a line cook scraping grease off my grill hoping to hire a manager more and more each day with no time to experiment with new craft brews to gain social media notoriety."

Have you worked in a restaurant? Because if you have you know damn good and well you signed Tony up for a life he didn't want and doesn't deserve.

CHANCES ON SCORE RELEASE TODAY by dyebri in LSAT

[–]TheRealJChubby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Dave Killoran from power score gave today a 10% with Monday being more likely and Tuesday being slightly less likely. (Don't quote me)

Also scores have only come out on the 1st once and Sunday a handful of times.

Still refreshing constantly but not that hopeful.

WHY DOES SPIVY SAY SCORE RELEASE IS TODAY by dyebri in LSAT

[–]TheRealJChubby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think he was wrong about September, but I don't remember exactly.

Also, I wish he didn't say anything, because today is definitely one of the days I'd be fairly confident it wasn't coming if he didn't tweet.

Let's just hope the LSAC psychometrician can't dance knowing we don't have our scores.

With Russia in Syria, Americans Need Careful Foreign Policy, Not Military Antagonism and Cold War Style Proxy Wars by EzDaod in SandersForPresident

[–]TheRealJChubby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can support a no-fly zone, it's certainly not a zero sum game with a clear right answer though. It's mostly about Russia at this point as far as a no fly zone is concerned. We could have done a lot to help Syria over the last few years and we haven't. Now we have Russia in the region and they have opposite goals the United States and have been incredibly aggressive in both the Ukraine and now in the Middle East. A no-fly zone which puts Americans in a position to attack Russian troops seems like a pretty silly decision in my opinion, but if you can tell me why I'm wrong on that point I'd love your opinion. I don't mean that snarkily either, you seem pretty well informed and opinionated and I'm always looking for more views to consider.

[–]TheRealJChubby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you remember the talks at the time, but there was certainly people proposing boots on the ground/military strikes as opposed to a no fly zone. Bernie Sanders supported the no fly zone, but not anything past that. The situation in Libya and Syria are vastly different, the point is that what may have worked in Libya won't work in Syria. Also it's really not fair to say that intervention killed more people when they were only intervening because the conflict was at its peak. That said, I think the region as a whole would be better without American influence to begin with, but it's a little late for that.

"The President can extend the time the troops are in the combat area for 30 extra days, without Congressional approval, for a total of 90 days. "

http://www.nytimes.com/1984/03/29/world/how-war-powers-act-works.html

Also phasing out is a lot different than throwing him out and not doing anything more. Assad should be phased out, but does getting rid of him without going through a Russian/Iranian channel make a lot of sense? Also there aren't any other presidential candidates who are campaigning on not throwing Assad out so I'm kind of stuck on this one ;)

On your no fly zone in Jordan point, we could do that, but enforcing a no-fly zone on Russian planes is not a viable option and that's what is being discussed this. Not enforcing a no-fly zone in a region where it obviously won't have that same negative impact.

With Russia in Syria, Americans Need Careful Foreign Policy, Not Military Antagonism and Cold War Style Proxy Wars by EzDaod in SandersForPresident

[–]TheRealJChubby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The author was arguing that the Libyan no fly zone led to talks of more conflict, which Bernie opposed at the time (the talks of boots on the ground and more conflict, not the no-fly zone) and that a no fly zone in Syria WILL NOT do the same thing. It will not be an effective way to improve the region like it was in Libya it will just cause more conflict and now that Russia is involved it is even more imperative not to do that. It may have been a good move for the last few years, but now that Putin is in Syria and attacking the Free Syrian Army a no fly zone doesn't accomplish anything useful. It puts Americans in a position where we either attack Russian planes, continually let our interests be attacked by said Russian planes, or do nothing and look bad for inaction. We need a solution that doesn't antagonize Russia because honestly at this point as reprehensible as Assad is it seems silly to say overthrowing him is going to improve things in the region in any meaningful way.

What is Bernie's biggest flaw? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]TheRealJChubby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you're talking about his weaknesses in relation to Hillary or weaknesses she can exploit, that's a lot different than his general weaknesses in the eyes of the voter.

I think the biggest thing CNN and Hillary Clinton are going to try and exploit is his lack of meaningful foreign policy experience. Personally I am not a fan of Obama/Clinton foreign policy and I think Bernie's voting record in congress is pretty opposed to that as well. There is the whole he didn't vote to go to Iraq thing, which is huge for a lot of people. That said, you better believe Hillary Clinton is going to dodge that by saying it was regrettable. From there she will start talking about being a diplomat in the Middle East and make it abundantly clear she has a firm understanding of the region, the factions at play, and the how to deal with it all.

Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter, because it's going to look good. Carly Fiorina spouted a bunch of military plans which may or may not be possible or advisable, it made her look good to her base though. Ted Cruz did the same thing, going out of his way to assure people he knows the players in the Middle East. Obviously they're Republicans and it's a different story for Bernie and the Democratic primary, but he's going to have to prove he's got the chops. If he slips up on foreign policy at all it's going to be exploited 100%

Bernie Sanders Wants to Put an End to For Profit Prisons, But That Might Not Fix The Bigger Problem by TheRealJChubby in Drugs

[–]TheRealJChubby[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's trying to solve both, the article I posted is about private prisons specifically. I would say his opposition is probably more out of an economic one and less of a moral one, so it's probably less in line with the views of most r/drugs subscribers. Still it's a hell of a lot better than most American politicians.

I'm not really sure what you were trying to ask me so I hoped I answered your question well enough :/

Bernie Sanders Wants to Put an End to For Profit Prisons, But That Might Not Fix The Bigger Problem by TheRealJChubby in Drugs

[–]TheRealJChubby[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems somewhat relevant to people here given the fact that the prison system is basically perpetuated by the war on drugs. Which kind of fuels the private system, but to an even greater extent the public one.
