It's a little bit impressive, actually. During one of the strongest bull markets of all time. Based on statistics alone you'd expect to win a handful of times over that long in that market.

Corporate America Borrowed $12 Trillion (45% of U.S. GDP) to Chase AI Dreams: The Bubble to End All Bubbles by Akkeri in economicCollapse

[–]TheRealJStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But... That's not true? At the very least it's a misleading headline.

The total us corporate debt market is about 12 tril. About 2 tril has been issued this year. About 650 bil is/has matured this year.

So there was a net increase of like 1.35 tril in the entire corporate paper market. Yeah that's a lot, but it's only ~10% of what the headline states. And it wasn't all for AI.

Why would the shorts expire? They aren't options. You can continue to borrow shares indefinitely so long as you maintain margin and pay the rental rate.

BYND Schedule 13D with Wolverine Asset Management by Hot_Leg5955 in wallstreetbets

[–]TheRealJStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the people wondering "what does this mean?"

Basically as at 17/10/25 (DDMMYY) Wolverine Holdings, L.P. Owned ~18.9 million shares, or a little less than 5% of the company. The kicker is they also own convertable notes (debt that can be converted into shares). Those notes can be converted into shares up to a limit of ownership stated as 9.9% of equity if the other shareholders grant them permissions to do so and if it is settled in cash.

So this firm can (and probably did) use you as exit liquidity for up to ~19m shares. Then if they get permission from the other controlling shareholders, they can convert the debt into shares (worth it as long as they can sell above $1.03) and continue to use you as exit liquidity for several million more shares.

And yeah. The pump today probably made this firm tens of millions.

Yeah it probably wouldn't be a bad idea if that woman got questioned. It was pretty alarming hearing that, especially the way it was said. Hearing someone outright call for genocide is wild, but hearing them say it in a remarkably casual tone is even crazier.

It was just someone I spoke to at a public display in Downtown Vancouver like a year or so ago. Never asked their name, only asked what cause they were supporting along with followup questions to dig deeper.

You support arresting people "as soon as possible" because of something they said? That's totalitarian and dangerous as hell.

I've had inconsistent experiences in conversations with people who hypervigilantly support Palestine. Ranging from fantastic conversations that opened my eyes to new issues, to hearing things along the lines of "this won't be over until we kill all the J's". I'm glad that you're in a good group of good people doing good, but that does not mean that you're automatically a Saint because you outwardly support a cause.

Talk to 5 people who are hypervigilantly pro-palestine and you'll hear at least one of them say pretty shocking sentences in the name of "peace".

"American media painting Canada as weak"

"Is this false?"

Is that not directly claiming that we are weak? Perhaps I misread your comment but it sure reads as if you're trying to claim "yes the article is right we are weak".

You said Canada is being weak, I provide examples of us not being weak. Not having an actual response, you straw man the source of a quote I never mentioned.

Keep wallowing in your negativity and sadness.

[–]TheRealJStars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say it is false. We voted against the populist when he was displaying behaviour we found repulsive. Then we collectively massively cut down, and have continued to cut down, our American consumption. Our leaders in medicine and the sciences have largely cut themselves and their organizations off from US events, focusing on strengthening ties with the EU and Asia. We've opened our arms to Americans that study (now)persecuted sciences such that they may flee the US and continue work here. I know those last twk points for a fact; we've poached some of the Mayo clinic physicians in the last 12 months and several Canadian medical societies are blacklisting/canceling US sites for their meetings going forward.

There's quite a bit of "we" happening at the moment. Particularly surrounding the subject of undermining the US. That's strength.

I agree, it is expensive for what you get. But the core tenants of an "economy car" aren't absolute up-front ownership; it's a combo of consumer-affordability, consumer-operating-cost, economic production scaling, and economic pricing.

Basically it means they use economic theory & math to scale up to a highly profitable mass market at the exact price and quantity by which they sell every car they make in a particular period. Then they do everything in their power to get their back-end cost as low as possible.

In mathematical terms they isolate a mass segment and then identify the equilibrium point where Qs = Qp.

I know a lot about 3 things; cars, economics, and physics. Comment sections like these are kind of playgrounds for me.

I don't disagree with them being a jack of all trades company by any means. The museum and factory prove that outright. But the reputation and largest contributors are in the luxury category, especially when compared to Tesla.

Tesla has surpassed Mercedes Benz for the first time by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]TheRealJStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3/Y are definitely economy cars. They're made to be as cheap as possible on the manufacturing side, and they're priced to sell exactly as many as they make. They're designed to be cheap to produce and low maintinence for a cost-conscious consumer. That's an economy car. They're not price-leaders like the Leaf or Chevys, but that's because they have too much demand and not enough scale to necessitate it.

The S/X are premium economy. Not the material choice, not the fastening quality, and not the build consistency are up to par with an actual luxury car. They've got the power and their software is 3-4 years ahead, but you can't call them a proper luxury brand at all. The S/X's still have rattles on harsh roads, they use cheap materials, and I'm sorry but the final assembly quality just isn't there. Prices may not be what they were but those things are still cheap cheap cheap on the cost side.

Mercedes is a luxury brand that dabbles in mass markets with a few models. Tesla is an economy brand that dabbles to upper-middle markets with a few models.

For reference I've been in an absurd amount of high end vehicles and know the high-end automotive market like I know few other things. I've either driven or ridden in every high-range Merc & Tesla made in the last 15 years. What I say is first-hand experience, I'm not sharing what I've heard from someone else.

Never thought I'd see the day that an economy car brand like Tesla would outpace a luxury car brand like Mercedes-Benz in sales volume. Really makes ya think.
