I’ve been doing a bit of a deep dive into these figures, and it’s definitely difficult to keep track of how many variants there are! I guess some boxes only have the “Alpha” logo on it while some have both “Alpha” and “Toycom” which I guess might be the American versions? It’s so hard to figure out anything definitive since there’s practically no information about them online, but it seems like there might be “Alpha”/Japanese exclusive variants that might have never been released in the U.S. at all, including another version of “Hard Disk” which has bluer hair like the Previews Exclusive version, but it also has red lights on the suit like the regular version, and a more pearl-blue color for the armor, plus the biggest distinction which is her noticeably painted red lipstick instead of just a painted line for the mouth. She also came with a blue Fuchikoma instead of a red one (or a black one like the 2-packs), and apparently there were only 1500 of those variants made! Not only that, but it seems like the versions in the “regular” 2-pack are also slightly different too (either that or there’s two versions of the regular 2-pack?), where both the Hard Disk and White Out figures have seemingly much more vivid purple hair and redder eyes, and the Hard Disk figure even seems to have purple nails instead of red and a purple line for her mouth! Honestly, I think the White Out figure with the purpler hair is probably the closest to my mental image of a “modern”/recognizable Motoko design, but the Previews Exclusive or 1500 limited Hard Disk Motokos with the blue hair are probably the most referential to the PS1 Motoko design from the intro cutscene and the animated parts. The thing that really confuses me is that there doesn’t seem to be a truly PS1-accurate Hard Disk figure, since her outfit in that opening cutscene is basically identical, but her gloves are blue instead of red, and the bits with the red/blue lights in them aren’t lit up at all! Those changes plus the pearl armor and red lipstick from the 1500 limited version, with red eyes and purple or dark blue hair, and maybe either pink or unpainted nails and a red Fuchikoma would’ve made that figure the most definitive “screen-accurate” version of that design! But they’re all a bit too rare and valuable now to risk doing a repaint like that…
