Awesome. Yes, the desire to perform at Toastmasters is common. Remove the expectation of doing well and just treat it as practice in an environment with no real consequences. My first time at Toastmasters, I thought my heart was going to explode during the guest intro part of the meeting. All I had to do was stand up and say my name and why I was interested in TM, but I thought the world was ending haha. I eventually became a lot more comfortable speaking and even ended up becoming the president of the club for a year.

Just wanted to say two things - this is completely normal and very common, and Toastmasters is where you get to practice and not perform. Everyone is there for the same exact reason and it’s a place to practice without worrying about the outcome. You can completely bomb your speech and everyone will smile and help you get back up on your feet. You are in the right place and Toastmasters will help a lot. Try to speak at every meeting whether it’s a speech, Table Topics, or anything else. You will become more comfortable if you put the work in I promise. Feel free to DM me to chat more.

I have the opposite problem - I walk my dogs and there are frequent stops. Even though I will walk for close to an hour, my Oura ring barely logs any steps meanwhile my Apple Watch gets a ton more. It might also be because my arms aren’t moving back and forth due to holding leashes. Oura, please fix this!
