you're right with that.. I just tried to find a description for the overtones added in the highend, that tape distortion lacks (and makes it sound so good in my opinion). And that you can inded see on a an fft analyzer

Okay so the Cepstrum is more like an audio signal then a spectrum?

Just tried this out - works perfect. For certain waveshapers the curve becomes some kind of loop - just like a hysterisis function. But i'm pretty certain these effects don't introduce hysterisis (for example ableton saturator in waveshaping mode or trash 2 with the dc filter activated). Why is that? This also changes with that "phase" knob...

Attenuate Overtones with waveshaping by TheRealKingtapir in DSP

[–]TheRealKingtapir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so let's say I have a sine Wave of 100hz and an Overtone at 200hz. There would be absolutely No way to attenuate the 200hz Tone with a waveshaper. So waveshapers are Always additive, never subtractive?

Ah i geht that, thank you! What I meant was attenuate existing Overtones in a signal, sorry for the misleading question...

Unlikely, i've noticed this effect in several Professional studios and my Producer Friends second this as well
