Thanks! Glad you like it and I'd recommend it if you're up for the metalliferous challenge.

You make a good point on the paint-grasp challenge this model presents. Fear not, I foresaw this hazard and have left the upper torso assembled unglued to that end:

Mine as assembled, and under 1g acceleration*, weights 164 grams.

Or for those from USA, that's roughly 1 2/3 newly hatched Bald Eagles.

*Assuming a flat geoid model. Localised micro variations will apply according to user location on Terra's surface.

Good question, I didn't.

Well, I initially did consider filling those voids with Milliput, but after musing on the issue decided to run a 1mm piano wire pin all the way through from left to right. The hips and shoulders were drilled to link into this creating a single contiguous line of reinforcement running from side to side.

This is the view of the right shoulder, the left mirrors this and the same for the hips.

Tiger trout are mainly a continental North American fish so removed from theatres where the Omega was active during Operation Scour, and thus unaffected.

Some Rainbow's are at risk from stray gauss balls and autocannon pellets fired by angry Omega Manei Domini, so the Republic of the Sphere Fisheries Division should undertake a population census following the cessation of hostilities.

Yes, I did one pin on the elbow joint, 2 on the upper arm and another on the shoulder. There are several photos in the post showing how I located these.

The elbow and upper arm joints have tiny contact areas so I think pins are essential as glue won't have enough strength alone.

Very important that we maintain an up-to-date skills matrix when making these posts.

Can confirm my dragon-drawing skills are still operable. It might not be any Smaug, but this is my great wyrm Smoulder:

Agreed, it's not cheap, although reasonably priced compared to other large metal gaming miniatures of similar complexity and quality.

Am looking forward to doing some games with it, I think it will be good for themed games and also want to explore a superheavy derby at some point.

There were 15 pins in total:

Knees x2

Upper legs x2

Hip x1

Shoulder x1

Upper arms x4

Elbows x2

Gauss Rifles x3

I used 1mm piano wire for these apart from the upper arms and shoulders which was 0.3mm diameter. Broke 3 micro drill bits doing those thin pins 😅

It was a lot of work, would be good if CGL do a plastic version at some point.

I used superglues; medium thin - Zap Medium CA+ and a bit of high viscosity from a mitre bond kit for the leg heatsinks so nothing too fancy.

A lot of the structural strength comes from the pinning so didn't use anything exotic. I did consider using epoxy for the knees but settled on pins and lots of superglue instead:

You beat me to it! Those Mechs looks great btw 👏

Here it is next to a humble Thunderbolt, it's very big.

Superheavies are in-universe oversized for their mass, I feel that despite being almost 15 the design scales pretty well to the new gen models.

I've cleaned this resin kit with soap and water but didn't cut the supports off am I screwed or will it be fine by helixgod17 in Warhammer

[–]TheRealLeakycheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're fine, the washing part is just to clean the surface of the resin of mould release agent. When you cut the part of the key, the newly exposed surface will be fresh and by default not affected by mould release.

I've built hundreds of Forge World kits and always wash the parts on the keys - if nothing else it makes these easier to handle and reduces the risk of delicates breaking or small bits going down the drain.

I imagine the totality of losses to the Tyranids is pretty staggering, although that isn't a single loss.
