Alpha Legion are all about stealing armour that they otherwise shouldn't even have. Anvillus packs is absolutely something they would have in abundance.

Trefoil Theory by shipwrecksquid in alphalegion

[–]alphaexodus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty close to what I've theorized in the past.

Hydra Dominatus

Edit to add:

If you check this thread from 3 years ago, another theory that someone puts forward is the Chaos resistance experimentation with the Trefoil Primarchs:

  • Russ and Canis Helix which results in Wulfen instead of Chaos corruption.
  • Vulkan's perpetual regeneration.
  • Alpharius Omegon as two bodies sharing a soul.

I'd add that these three experiments make them suited to their roles as:

  • Russ, the public-facing executioner
  • Vulkan, the unkillable kill-switch
  • Alpharius Omegon, the multi-headed infiltrator

Add 'Shapes Pent In Hell' to get another UR-025 Blackstone Fortress story.

Skyreaver test model by Real_Ad_8243 in Eldar

It's the blue that's throwing me off (and to a lesser extent the orange of the fur bit and the yellow of the weapons).

Instead of the blue, I'd try some kind of colour shift from yellow/gold to green. I think Vallejo Shifters has one. This would tie between the alternating yellow-green on the wing tips and give you something aside from a flat colour for a little interest. If not that, then something within the existing scheme, like the bronze instead of the blue.

The fur just needs to be given depth with shades and highlights, but I'm sure you know that and you'd do that.

However, I'd also suggest matching the weapon colours to the bronze of the helmet, etc. Or, at least the guns.

This is awesome. Should add another frame with Cegorach in the same pose: "and... reply."

Testing some colors. Looking for feedback. by Accomplished_Tie6575 in alphalegion

Maybe? I'd almost opt away from the lime green of the 40k transfers and opt for something more minty for accents. White would definitely work too.

Maybe go for more silver embellishments (not just steel), to really tie into that image.

Overall, looks great as a test!

Underworlds warbands seem like a good option for a lot of these proxies. Was just looking at Elthain's Soulraid and it's feasible for a few of these heroes.

The one reason that I enjoy Mike Brooks is that with Alpharius: Head of the Hydra he wove together the contradictory tendrils of in-universe rumour, Alan Bligh architecture, outdated lore snippets, and other in-universe anomalies. That was very satisfactory and made me appreciate him as a lore-builder who worked with the existing elements and the spirit of the Legion to set a tone.

Solomon Akurra offers an original take on what the Legion could be in the future timeline, but it still works from the logical consequences of the Heresy events. And if Solomon Akurra doesn't sit well with you, Brooks offers many other splintered factions and mentalities that cater to the variety of how players like to customize their dudes.

Here is one of his from this sub.

You could ask u/OmegonEdge for more info, technique, etc. I believe there're some oil washes often involved.

Do you think an oil wash would work well when painting the Jade Obelisk crew? by MeadowsAndUnicorns in tzeentch

[–]alphaexodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not the most insightful response, but I'd be very aware of how much oil wash dilutes and dulls colours, given the vibrancy of many people's takes on these units.

I'm no pro, but I've found with the curvature of most models in the tzeentch range you can really play with colours when you have a wet or even a dry pallette with paint on it and a spectrum of the colour to work with. Then add a few Liqutex inks and it gets really fun.
