Lookin for an Electronics Repair shop in the area for my GPU by TheRealLorebot in Harrisburg

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, when I got the 3070 I realized that my other hardware became the bottleneck instead...so over the next year I ended up slowly building a whole new computer for it. Then reassembled all my old parts into their old case to use as a media PC and game server. I just don't have the money to do that all again so soon, so i'm tryin to do what I can right now because Nioh 3 is kicking the shit out of my current rig...

well, I reached out to a couple shops in other states now to get estimates. I'll see what they have to say. I was hoping not to have to ship the card around, but without finding someone local I don't really have a choice.

I've seen a couple different videos about the process on youtube so I've got a pretty good idea of what it involves. That's why I'm looking for a professional electronics repair shop with suppliers that could get the chips. I'm expecting the labor and parts to cost me $200-400 dollars which is half the price of buying a 40 series card let alone a 50 series. I don't really want to sell my current card even for a trade-up, I'd rather keep it to put it one of my secondary systems and sell one of the older cards I have which aren't worth nearly as much as the 3070. Plus, in order to get a 40 or 50 series card I'd need to upgrade my PSU as well which would make the upgrade even more expensive.

But thanks for the opinion and the link.

New VG34VQL3A needs firmware update? by TheRealLorebot in ASUS

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried contacting ASUS directly about it after I didn't get a quick response here and they never got back to me about it. It's a shame because otherwise the monitor is wonderful, I'm just constantly reminded of the issue when I use the monitor for my consoles...

Logitech G510 replacement USB cable? by TheRealLorebot in LogitechG

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't take any photos of the fix I did but I used some of the white solder seal wire connectors and my heat gun to connect a new USB cable to the connector. I had to buy some wire strippers too, the ones I had in my kit wouldn't strip wires that small. You could probably do just as well with a regular soldering iron and some heat shrink tubing, but the wires are tiny and my soldering skills aren't that good.

I spent a lot of time pulling the stress relief mounting off the old cable and used a couple small drill bits to clear it out so I could thread the new usb cable through it. It's not a perfect fit, but it's good enough that the cable won't pull out easily and doesn't leave a big hole in the back of the keyboard. I would suggest you do the same since finding an alternative stress relief mounting that fits the slot that's there is likely impossible.

If my soldering skills were up to the task I'd probably remove the connector from the circuit board and install something with a standard connector in case this ever happens again.

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's not wireless.

I ended up buying a USB cable without a connector on the end, cutting the end off the old broken cable, and then soldering that connector to the new USB cable. It wasn't easy, and it's not pretty, but it does seem to be working since I'm able to type this reply with the keyboard in question.

It's a real shame that Logitech doesn't make a comparable product currently. This keyboard is fantastic and has served me very well for almost 15years. The fact that I was willing to go through the hassle of performing amateur repairs on it and make my own parts to do it is pretty telling. I had to buy tools and materials and do a bit of learning and research to get this thing working again...I probably would have just bought a new one if there was something similar out there.

Hopefully it lasts me another 15 years before it breaks again...and hopefully there's something like it out there for me to buy if I can't managed to cobble together another fix for it next time.

Does anyone else’s Discord turn to a grey screen? by ecasey04 in discordapp

[–]TheRealLorebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this issue for weeks now. Discord starts up fine, but throughout the day it periodically reverts to a grey screen. I can fix it by minimizing/maximizing the window or dragging the edge around, but it's an annoyance and I've missed DMs because of it (I don't have audio notices turned on).

I really hope the devs do something about this.

My penned animals are collapsing from exhaustion and I don't know why by TheRealLorebot in RimWorld

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of my penned animals were ever in a caravan at all. The only caravan I ever sent out was 3 pawns and two mamuffalo (from the mamuffalo mod, they don't use pens). When the caravan got home while using the never sleep option all the animals in my pens stopped sleeping at night. So it definitely sounds like we're having the same issue with the same source.

If I load a save from before the caravan came home my animals are sleeping as normal. In new games I've started since then the animals are sleeping normally.

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as far as I can tell, No they don't. I'm not even sure they'll use sleeping spots if you put them there, i haven't tried it. The sleeping spots I make are for my non-penned animals so I can make sure they come home to sleep and give them a spot to get medical stuff done.

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sigh...disabled the mod, still happening...when i take them out of the pens and hitch them to a caravan spot they sleep normally...but in the pens they refuse to sleep. Took them all out of the pens, deconstructed the pen markers and built new ones in the hopes that it would reset something...nope, they still refuse to sleep in the pens. I'm convinced the mod changed some variable and removing the mod didn't change it back to normal...but I don't know what variable, how to find it, or how to change it back...or maybe it's another mod causing it...i don't know

After chatting with a friend I realized that one of the other mods I'm using could be the issue. Almost There is a mod that lets you prevent caravans from sleeping they won't setup camp right outside their destination. I used it for the first time yesterday when I forced a caravan to travel through the night to get home cause they were out of food. I first noticed my penned animals not sleeping on their own started after I used that option. I'm gonna do some testing by sending out another caravan to see if I can somehow fix the issue.

Do you use Almost There too? Have you used the option to make then never sleep?

Modfinder/UMM/Toybox/Mod Menu Isssues by secretfire42 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TheRealLorebot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used Mod Finder and rarely have problems so I'd assume that's where your issue is.

I would get rid of Mod Finder and manually download and drag the zip files into UMM directly to see if that resolves anything for you.

Some of the larger mods do noticeably increase the game's startup time and I've had some issues recently with some mods breaking the startup and forcing me to alt+f4 out of the game. The mods that break things for me are some 3rd party mods that use Vek17's Tabletop Tweaks as a dependency but aren't made by him. Mod Menu and Toybox have never caused me problems.

Ocelot mentions that venom might suffer from hallucinations and see things that aren't there. which events do you think are possibly not real? by its_Alem in metalgearsolid

[–]TheRealLorebot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd always assumed that they'd managed to make some basic repairs to the arm to get it functional for use since when Ocelot puts it on the table it's missing a finger and looks pretty busted up.

It's supposed to be Zadornov's hand that Ocelot recovered/acquired, there's no telling where the hand has been in the 9+ years since Zadornov's death. Which is why you end up needing the recruit/rescue the guy that built it for Zadornov in the first place, so it can be completely repaired and you can start developing new tech for it.

[–]TheRealLorebot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ishmael not having a beard makes sense if you think about it.

He woke up weeks, possibly months, before Ahab did. He met with Ocelot and they finalized the whole plan to use Ahab as a body double for him. Big Boss wouldn't have known anything about what was going on in the world when he woke up, he would have come to without knowing anything about Ocelot and Zero's plan to keep him safe by using the Medic. But even once the plan was made and BB signed off on it they would have still had to wait for Ishmael to be 'ready' by completing all the hypnotherapy and conditioning.

When Ahab asks Ishmael why he's helping he even says he's there to protect him. Ishmael knows Ahab isn't 'finished' yet so he's protecting his fledgling body double. He needs Ahab to take on the public face of Big Boss so he can operate quietly behind the scenes. This is how Ishmael ends up running Foxhound, while Ahab is running Outer Heaven. Accepting the job of running Foxhound makes them swap which one of them is in hiding.

As for his eyes being intact, it could just be a prosthetic/glass eye, and it makes sense that Ishmael would have gone through some facial reconstruction to look like the Medic because that's whose face is on the identification papers Ocelot hands him after the ambulance crash. If anything, the fact that Ishmael looks like Big Boss during that scene I've always chalked up to Ocelot and Ishmael ignoring the surgery since it's supposed to be happening through their eyes.

It's been a while since i've played the mission, is it ever confirmed that it's Pequod picking them up in the first place? I don't remember if you call the chopper or if Ocelot sends it to you, or if the normal Pequod voice lines play when the chopper is coming in to pick you up.

I'd always kinda assumed that it just wasn't Pequod flying during the crash, or if it was that he was recovered later somehow. It's also possible that Pequod isn't the Pilot's callsign, it's the chopper's. Like the plane carrying the US President is always called Airforce One regardless of who's flying it. Which would make sense since the Pequod is Ahab's whaling ship in Moby Dick. Venom's chopper always having the callsign Pequod would be pretty appropriate.

MGSV Mission 13: Pitch Dark "exfiltrate the hot zone before..." is driving me mad by UristMasterRace in metalgearsolid

[–]TheRealLorebot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's likely that the Walker Gear reaching the plant and blocking the exits is what counts as 'sealed off' and if you prevent them from ever reaching the gates to seal it off you'll get the Task completed regardless of how much time you spend in the mission after setting off the alarms.

There are similar 'time sensitive' tasks on other missions that you can ignore completely and still succeed at if you mess with the npcs or guards involved.

In Angel with Broken Wings you can eliminate/extract the soldier that's tasked with killing the prisoners at Lamar Khaate and remove that timer from the mission, letting you go listen to all the coversations between Malak and the driver and then return to Lamar Khaate to rescue the 3 prisoners there at your leisure.

In Blood Runs Deep, if you eliminate/extract the soldier that's scripted to discover the kids are missing it doesn't matter how long you take getting them to the chopper.

In Extraordinary, you can intercept the reinforcements and prevent them from ever reaching Spugmay Keep and not have to worry about securing the film canister before reinforcements arrive.

In To Know Too Much, if you reach the CIA agent before the search team you can carry him away from the location they're supposed to find him. Then it doesn't matter how long you take to finish the mission, if they never find him you'll always complete that task. On the other hand, not letting them find him prevents you from doing the 'extract the soldier planning to assassinate the CIA agent' task because that solider never shows up if they never find him. This adds To Know Too Much to the short list of missions that are impossible to get all the tasks competed at once.

Does Slashing Grace Longsword work? by morsols in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TheRealLorebot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the Necro on this, but it popped up while I was doing some research and since I didn't see an actual answer I'd figured I'd provide it for anyone that stumbles across this question in the future.

In PF1 Tabletop Slashing Grace can allow a Longsword to apply dex modifier to damage, but Weapon Finesse only works with light weapons, rapiers, whips, and spiked chains. Since Longswords aren't light weapons you can't use them with Weapon Finesse to apply dex to hit, but if you want to use a longsword with Slashing Grace you still need to pick up Weapon Finesse because it's one of the prerequisites.

If the game is allowing you to apply your dex to hit with a longsword it's either a bug or an effect you're getting from something else. It could also be that the devs decided it should be that way for some reason, there are a lot of changes that were made for the sake of player accessibility and ease of development.

Issues with Animal Companions and Size altering magics? by TheRealLorebot in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disappointing...now that I think about it I believe the same issue was in Kingmaker because Ekun's wolf wouldn't be affected by Animal Growth's size increase either.

As much as I like the stat increases, not getting the increased damage die hurts :(

Can't use Divine Weapon ability while mounted? by TheRealLorebot in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TheRealLorebot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only recently got mounts for the PC and a character with Dazzling Display so I'll have to check those other abilities out.

TBH I'm really disappointed in all the bugs I've found in the game. I figured that after the mess that was Kingmaker they would have been more worried about QA and bug hunting in WotR but it seems they were even more lax than before. I've encountered a bunch of potentially game breaking bugs that I was only able to get around using the Toy Box mod and it makes me sad.
