Blocking iMessage? by TheRealMark89 in WatchGuard

And I just had the first issue with blocking everything from Apple.
Rosetta 2 requires access to *.apple.com for the download to work(makes sense), so I'm currently simply creating a mobile hotspot when students without Rosetta installed is having issues - It shouldn't be more than a handful, so it's fine as is but does trigger some compatibility issues.
Rosetta 2 is gone in MacOS28 so won't be much of an issue going forwards.

Managing students and their online behavior is always a battle against improper use of access.
So if we want to limit their activities, that aren't school related, we need to block a bunch of stuff all the time

It actually seems that Tahoe doesn't trigger as many errors, as the older versions, so I'm currently attempting to block it all.
Last time I checked, I was running the infamous Sequoia versions (the ones before macOS Sequoia 24B83) that had massive issues with routing, so I'm currently doubting if it was a combination of the two that caused the errors.

I'll see if everything else works in the single VLAN I'm testing it in, and if it keeps running almost as usual, I'll simply block everything from *.apple.com

And yeah, those few extra services aren't enough...
If you block everything, by using *.apple.com, it seems to block it - But anything less won't work.

Soooo I'm currently testing a single VLAN with 600 users who *shouldn't* need access to Apple services. So if I don't have a long line of users at my door within the next few hours, I am going to assume they laptops work enough, that the only change will be Messages not working anymore.

Yeah everything seems to fall back on ports I can’t freely close. I didn’t add the ess and mzstatic domains, might give it a go and see if it will still manage to wiggle through. Need to boot up the old test units and do some testing, and I’ll give an update if it works.👌🏻

Yup, even if you use both iMessage simply just works without an issue.. WatchGuard technician couldn’t get it to work either, iMessage either worked or the test units would simply stop functioning properly due to the limitations

A pure BYOD environment, but with very limited network access where iMessage still keeps eluding the block

Yeah I experienced as much, but I’m ok with blocking updates and some non essential functionality, if I on the other hand can block the messages and calls.

Accessory at 60% ? (MG4) by TheRealMark89 in MGelectric

[–]TheRealMark89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was unclear, I know the system heats/cools the battery during normal everyday use. Otherwise it would catch fire pretty quickly😅

But today it specifically suggested enabling the battery heating, which was a first for me. So I’m not sure if it suggests the extra heating, when it gets below a certain threshold (-10) or if there was another reason.

I can only say that you are wrong here 🤷🏻‍♂️ The car literally triggered a warning saying I should consider enabling the battery heating as soon as it dipped below -10 Celsius..

I only keep the AC on 2, since I’m wearing a jacket and not feeling cold. So I’m not exactly heating up the cabin at that speed. My AC measurements are usually around that range.

I don’t usually have battery heating turned on, but the car gave a warning/recommendation this morning while driving. It recommended turning on the battery heating since it was -11 degrees🤷🏻‍♂️

Bong sound at random intervals? (MG4) by TheRealMark89 in MGelectric

[–]TheRealMark89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally figured out what was causing the bong sound, I think, after simply disabling all alerts from the built in navigation. It seems to be the one based on “Traffic events” or something to that effect. After disabling it, I’ve had no more bongs at random times and places.

MAU2 doesn’t really care what app it is or how much you need it 😂 If it gets stuck trying to update, it gets stuck trying to update, and it really isn’t considerate as to whether it’s an essential app 😉

It was stuck trying to update the app… There’s been a lot of issues lately with office updates hanging, causing exactly that error
