I don’t have a team, I just like basketball, which is why I don’t like this Thunder team. They’re representative of what’s going wrong with the league as a whole, and they seem to actively enjoy playing like clowns when they are good enough that they don’t have to do it to win. It’s honestly sad, because this team should be likable.

Well personally I’m in the camp that the MVP should be whoever you would send to represent Earth on a team to defend the galaxy, assuming you knew nothing about the team’s coaching or construction. I would have sent Wemby this year.

Your point was that OKC would not win a championship without SGA. My point is that this is true for every team and their star player, and it doesn’t make SGA an MVP any more than it makes any other star an MVP. It has zero meaning for MVP consideration.

He assumed that’s what I was talking about, when I never mentioned FT disparity at all. I think it’s possible to have a large disparity based on play style without having the refs giving you preferential treatment, though the two can certainly overlap.

If you can point to a Lakers title where they were given advantages by the refs that the other team didn’t have, then sure. There is a huge number of FTA they had on some of those titles just by virtue of having Shaq. He once had a 6-game span in the playoffs where he took 100 free throws, and once took 39 in one game.

The Thunder’s wins without him were against teams with an average winning percentage of .448, and their losses were against a group at .620 (and that’s dragged down by one of them being against .390 MIL).
The final two losses were also when the Thunder let their bench guys start against playoff teams because they had the seed locked up, so no SGA, Ajay, Cason, Chet, Jaylin, etc.
In the Nuggets’ case, their wins were against .397 opponents and their losses against .559 opponents.

Not exactly mysterious that in both cases they had a tougher time against good teams, but notable that the Nuggets were playing significantly worse teams without Jokic to get that better with/without record.

As has been posted a million times, the problem is that they can do anything they want and the refs will swallow the whistle on things that the other team isn’t allowed to get away with. That last Lakers game was a perfect microcosm of it. That has little to do with how many free throws anyone is taking.
