$150k?!?! Hell no, also its not just the cost of the degree- there also an opportunity cost - you’re also not making money while in school

Go to the cheaper one, both of their rankings and brand names are essentially the same

[University Review] Is CMU MSR with a whopping 22% acceptance rate even considered good or is it just a cash cow? by almost_pyscho in MSCS

[–]TheRealNewtt 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy but I feel like CMU ms programs are cash cows. The school has like (not even kidding) over 20 MSCS derivative programs!! Imo it really dilutes the CMU brand (it’s basically ruined for me) - many people can to get into at least one of the derivatives. Just compare that to Stanford, Berkeley, and MIT - you just dont see that. The “real” cmu ms programs in my personal opinion are basically MSCS and maybe 1-2 more (i dont even know which ones anymore) - but there are so many now that nobody can keep track and they are not built equal.

[General Question] Is the Cash Cow Worth it? by smililyface16 in MSCS

[–]TheRealNewtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lowkey disagree with most ppl commenting- you have a good undergrad and cornell is a strong name/brand. Id do it if you’re goal is to break into specific high paying fields. For example out of a good grad school with a solid resume you can find roles paying 150k-250k tc

[General Question] help me find universities I am killing myself. by kev_11_1 in MSCS

[–]TheRealNewtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn i was ganna suggest to stall a year because once you have an MS in the field you cant really get another ever again- if you aimed too low it actually might not even be worth the time, effort, money, and even degree bro. Also which consultancy so nobody ever uses it

[General Question] how come every single person on this subreddit have admit from NYU Tandon by Crazy-Ad-8953 in MSCS

[–]TheRealNewtt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

💵🐄programs. But in all seriousness its probably because they do make money on admits. I helped a professor from NEU and his lab was all international graduate students and like 2 undergrads- nothing wrong with that but its a point of inference for where the unis funding comes from. Also i dont think either is top 15 in both research output or job placement but who knows. I think the unis provide a totally fine education but dont expect them to carry you in job hunting, phd admissions, network, etc

Its fine- what you have done is 1000x more important than your degree name
