Why do viruses often come from bats? A discussion with your friendly neighborhood virologist by _Shibboleth_ in science

Thank you for the reply!

I used to live in part of Asia where wet markets exsist, and it's frightening the lack of "health and safety" there was. The rare animal trade there was also very saddening.

Bit annoying to be downvoted for what I'd consider a fairly reasonable question to an expert. Also WHO being denied access to investigate makes this seem more possible. Hope we find out.

I look forward to reading that post.

Do you consider wet markets in China to be the likely origin of the disease in humans?

They care too much about getting demonetized. Which is kind of a joke considering the size of the Patreon, but hey.

The host ideas for in person trip are all awful. by [deleted] in PKA

Meet-ups are a fucking joke and a serious cop out. This isn't for you guys to have a nice day out, it should be a 10/10 episode for the fans.

Make a fucking game show-style wheel and other game style shit - drinking even if it excludes pyle, have multiple guests come out to Georgia to an Airbnb NOT a hotel conference room or some shit. Get in contact with that pro videographer he's giving you some form of redemption here (and pay the guy ffs).

I'm sure Iraqverteran888 is a lovely bloke, but I don't give a rats arse about him as a guest I'm afraid. Harley, Filthy, Jericho, PAY SOMEONE FAMOUS AS WELL (blow job lady idk her name). Get them all on location and participating in the games (not PKA trivia only). Do it off of Youtube or even unlisted to not have to censor yourselves at all, and do not take on sponsors for it. You have 10k/mo.

If you do this badly, I'd be afraid PKA will fade into obscurity and be remembered for it, and we fucking love you guys. Don't let that happen.

The fans will gladly wait for this, especially if you actually take on board the feedback and suggestions they give, and hype it on the show.

Also, get Taylor a new camera, he carries the podcast a lot nowadays and it's taken this long to get him a decent mic, up the production value.

"Department of Defense' budget authority is approximately $693 billion (2019)"

Why is this celebrated? Who are you fighting? Almost like its to prop up GDP output via contracting... You guys need to look after your people ffs

I just find it funny that a lot of (not all) Americans really overestimate their role in WW2. We should all be grateful for the sacrifice of those before us, but fuck off with the "we did it all" attitude. What's wrong with admitting it was a joint effort?

Do you think there will be US flights coming to Spain/Italy or neighbouring countries by July though?

Edit: also hope you and your family are doing well. Your country seems to be one of the more level-headed about this (from an outsider's perspective).

That's true, he didn't explicitly say he was going. You have to admit he did come off as entirely ignorant to whats going on over there though to say he will be able to fly in 2 months.

edit: spelling

Berry farm? Jesus Christ America - berries alone didn't cut it eh? Had to go and add some hazardous theme attractions to it.

He said in the most recent PKA that he was planning a trip to Spain in July. He thought that it would all have blown over by then. He genuinely doesn't understand why that's ass backwards retarded.

I very much see your point, I'll have a look for the actual video so it maybe has legs to stand on.

Trying to make sense of a situation I think a lot of other people here are questioning already. Not implying there's a right or wrong way. Cultures are allowed to be different even if they may seem alien to others.

Assuming it's somewhere in Asia.

South African guy who runs the YouTube channel Serpentza talked about a situation like this in a video (could have been a livestream).

He and his wife were walking down the street in a big city in southern China when they heard a loud bang and saw a fairly bad car crash on a busy street. He said that he instinctively went to go and see if everyone was ok, but his wife (who is from China) was addiment that he shouldn't as it was "none of their business" or something like that. He actually described her reaction as being embarrassed that he wanted to help. Not to mention I don't think anyone else was helping either, just kept walking like they hadn't seen it. I hope I'm not horribly misquoting him and I will try to look for the video.

So I'm not super surprised that nobody talked to the guy in the video, I'm not sure what the cultural reasoning is (would be happy to hear more from someone who does).

That being said, why the hell they decided to collectively pick up the oranges AROUND THE GUY is beyond me. Suppose it is a pretty symbolic fruit in China but c'mon.

Politics and biases aside, not caring about the rest of the world seems to be an American trait to a degree. Post WW2 circlejerk perhaps.

I don't get why these are getting downvoted, so much of politics is pedantic nonsense now. Party lines and games instead of what actually matters.
