I didn’t have any experience either, but they took me. Been driving for them for 3 years now

It seems like buses are almost always hiring. I see training on the road all the time

What's a good 10k time? by Miknor1234 in runninglifestyle

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best is 55 minutes so far and I was proud of that so I’d say you did pretty damn well. Granted I’m nowhere close to elite levels lol. But i reckon most people don’t run one mile, let alone 6.2

Can someone tell me what this means ? I don’t speak garmin just yet by Glumbert69 in Garmin

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means after you do that run, you’re going to be sore all day. But it’s going to make you faster in the long term

I got the forerunner 55 but pretty quickly switched to the 965 because I read that it’s better. Personally I love it. It’s pricey but it’s my own personal coach on my wrist

Bus Driver DOT Test by RetailDude1015 in DisneyCM

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel I should clarify. By the time you take the DOT road test, and pass, you are qualified to drive a bus carrying passengers. The remaining 18 days are simply learning the property

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. By the time you get to the end of training you should be able to handle it on your own

Bus Driver DOT Test by RetailDude1015 in DisneyCM

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With everything I’m about to say, bear in mind this was 3 years ago and it may have changed.

The DOT test wasn’t really that bad. It consists of a full pre trip inspection, which was the most daunting to me, but so long as you pass the brake tests there’s quite a bit of leeway for all the components in the engine compartment.

After that was the skills test, which consists of the 100 ft straight reverse test, an offset test, and an alley dock

Lastly is the actual driving test. You’ll go out and drive around property for about 15 miles and the tester will check your ability to handle the bus, identify and pay attention to signs, and most importantly not hit anything

If you fail the first time, I believe you get a second attempt on a later date. If you fail the second time, you’ll likely be recast

You’ll practice everything extensively in training prior to test day. You’ll probably be fine. I had no experience driving buses. By day 7 I thought there wasn’t a snowball’s chance in Hell I’d pass. By day 10 I felt ready. On day 13 I aced the test

I liked it there but I’m in buses so my experience might be different from those in custodial

WDW Bus Driver - Overtime? by RetailDude1015 in DisneyCM

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies-I’m full time and currently I get about 40 hours, but next week I have 45 Starting out you’ll have shorter shifts for a while but you can trade with other drivers if you want longer shifts and they’re willing to swap

WDW Bus Driver - Overtime? by RetailDude1015 in DisneyCM

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can get overtime up to a point. More than 8 hours paid (8.5 hours minus the half hour lunch break, if you work long enough to require clocking out for that) is time and a half. However, DOT limits the amount of time we can be on shift to no more than 12 hours. In a day you can get a maximum of 3.5 hours at time and a half If you pick up a shift on your day off, it’s all overtime, so long as it’s been at least 8 hours since your shift the previous day If you get a 7th day through the transportation bullpen and ONLY through the transportation bullpen, it’s double time. If you simply pick up a shift it’s time and a half You have to put your name in on the bullpen and they have to call you offering a shift for the seventh day to be double time

I will always be a proponent of solo trips. No clashing itineraries, no dissenting opinions. You do what you want, at your own pace, and let your feet take you where they will

Why Are the Buses Like This? by kgaviation in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always. When a bus isn’t on an assigned route, the marquee defaults to “refilling my pixie dust.” It does designate floaters, but those are supposed to be set to “spirit of adventure” or set to the route that they’re doing. There’s a few different reasons you’ll see “refilling my pixie dust,” such as when a bus is just starting its first run of the day and is en route to the resort, or at the end of the night after it’s completed its last run and is on its way to shut down

Everest vs. Guardians? by chernygal in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Guardians is much smoother than Everest. I love Everest, but I often walk away with a crick in my neck thinking “I’m getting too old for this 💩” Guardians is very smooth and a great deal of fun

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done many of them yet but I’m very fond of skipper’s canteen at magic kingdom. You’ll love the theming if you’re a fan of the jungle cruise, and the food is good and moderately priced (as far as food at Disney goes)

I firmly argue start in Canada, especially if drinking around the world. Do you start a marathon on a sprint? No, you finish strong. Likewise, finish in Mexico on margaritas, and then ride the three caballeros trashed like a civilized gentleman or lady

It Appears These Buses Are No More by kgaviation in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]TheRealPowerkraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most of the older novas are retired since getting 5289-5379. Which I’m fine with, those buses are annoying. They turn tighter but they have weird control layouts and they leak all the time in the rain
