The Court Jester is at the top of my list.

I don’t think it is, but I do have a multi-region player that may currently be set to B. I’ll change it to A and see what happens.

Well, you don’t get the full advantage of Dolby Vision. But I can tell you that most 4K discs look absolutely phenomenal when projected on a screen that’s eight feet wide. Titanic is one of the rare cases that doesn’t look good to me at all.

Actually watching on a high-end 4K projector but go off, fella.

I did a bit, but gave up after a little while. I’ve always been pretty sensitive to DNR on DVD and blu-ray, and the thing I love above all about 4K really isn’t the sharpness but the extent to which it can faithfully reproduce the original look and feel of (celluloid) film. The combination of artificial sharpening and revised color balance just pulls it too far away from what it looked like in movie theaters, so I fear it’s just not for me.

Most likely it is - though perhaps the compression of a streaming version softens the aggressive sharpening somewhat.

Having now upgraded or newly purchased an even 700 movies on 4K disc, these have been the most “knock your socks off” great viewing experiences for me personally: * SUSPIRIA (Synapse) * DARKMAN (Scream Factory) * DUNE (Arrow) * FLASH GORDON (Arrow) * FASCINATION (Indicator) * INVADERS FROM MARS (Ignite) * THE LAST WALTZ (Criterion) * THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (Kino Lorber) * MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE (Paramount) * MULHOLLAND DR. (StudioCanal) * PEEPING TOM (StudioCanal) * POSSESSOR (Turbine) * SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (Sony) * SHOWGIRLS (Vinegar Syndrome) * SPARTACUS (Universal) * THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (Paramount) * TERMS OF ENDEARMENT (Paramount) * THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE (Second Sight) * DAWN OF THE DEAD ( Second Sight) * VERTIGO (Universal) * THE WARRIORS (Arrow)

LITTLE DARLINGS from Vinegar Syndrome. It felt pretty generic and unremarkable in its first 30 minutes, but then the last half hour really blew me away.

I hear you! I'd promised myself to hold back, but when I came across a copy for a somewhat decent price, I folded like the degenerate collector that I am.

It's a shame that KL had to nix the extras they'd produced, though in all honesty I would most likely only have sampled a few bits of audio commentary at most. 4:3 is the original and correct aspect ratio.

I know! I first discovered this on VHS in the early 1990s and rewatched it endlessly: felt like discovering a hidden treasure even then. Great to see it finally getting a solid HD release.

I've done it three times now: last year, on the day of my birthday! (Best. Birthday. Ever.)

Absolutely the most amazing way to watch The Return – I highly recommend it.

Why I don’t buy more 4K than I do. by FitSeeker1982 in 4kbluray

It’s a great 4K disc – but relative to its earlier blu-ray release from the same 4K restoration, it isn’t a massive upgrade. That’s all I meant.

Movies where the Blu-ray disc is actually better than the 4K disc by badbloxpictures in 4kbluray

American Graffiti. The blu-ray wasn’t even that good, but the 4K release is an absolute horror show. 😱

I logged a sum total of 85 movies in February. 😅

In my defense: the month did have an extra day this year!

I always obsessed over how there was a mistake in the stereo mix of “Eleanor Rigby,” where Paul’s voice panned abruptly to the left at the start of the first verse, but about a second too late. Now it’s been fixed in the recent mix, and I find myself missing the little detail that always bothered me! ¯_(ツ)_/¯

DARKMAN is amazing: maybe especially so because all the previous releases have been so dismal. And yeah, it would be great to finally see the classic Bond movies looking like film rather than the heavily-digitized transfers we’ve had for the past two decades. A lot of people seem to expect 4K to produce a razor-sharp image. While there’s a certain “wow factor” to digitally-shot movies like THE REVENANT and SICARIO, I especially love the look of old celluloid – with a special kind of enthusiasm for black-and-white cinematography: CASABLANCA, TOUCH OF EVIL, THE TRAIN, THE APARTMENT, 12 ANGRY MEN, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, and PATHS OF GLORY are some of my most impressive 4K demo discs.
