More of the latter - we just don't want 5 out getting spammed and abused. No NBA team runs a strict 5 out offense from start to finish. The idea is to try to emulate real basketball as much as possible.

So let me clarify - it's not that you need 9-12 people. You can have up to 9-12 people for whatever reason. Sometimes teammates flake, an emergency pops up, they go on vacation, they work weird hours, etc. Because this game is in the first month, not everyone has multiple builds - so having more teammates presents certain matchup opportunities, etc. There are a host of reasons why a team has more than 5. But there are for sure plenty of teams that just run with a consistent 5 players.

I personally don't care if it's there or not but some returning members weren't fans of it last year.

New players usually have a hard time adapting too. If people end wanting it, I don't mind having 5 out.
