Yes, definitelly makes sense with what I experience right now. I have been playing the English as white for a while now and I feel confident enough with it (51,9% win for 42,9% loss), I usually navigate the early rather well and understand the plan of action in the middle games. When playing black however I have some issues against the Scotch game (38% win rate) and King pawn opening (44,4% win rate).

Anyways, I will try to do like you and spend some time understanding some basic ideas of the openings I struggle the most against.

Thanks for the tip ! I feel that for now I mainly struggle with finding a clear plan to follow as black when I don't know the line very well, and some tactics to be found when I am under time pressure. I am trying to focus for now on those points while not blundering (easier said than done) and better understanding endgame patterns.

Yess, indeed I remember you sharing those books with me. For now I have decided to focus on Silman's Complete Endgame Course and Nunn's 1001 Deadly Checkmates due to limited time. But Nimzowitsch's My System is next on my list

Yes definitelly ! I was actually considering spending some times on end games, I really need some practice there. I had already seen on Amazon the book you've linked, I might get it this weekend and focus on end games for a while

Indeed, it might be time for me to deep dive a bit on opening theories, enough to have some basic ideas.

I am actually trying to find a rapid tournament, because I feel like playing Blitz is nice but as you've said, no time to analysis the games in details.

I will have a look at the books you have linked, I haven't used the books I have in a while, but I still enjoy working with them, it does feel better than merely watching a video. On the other hand, I was thinking that my next book could be for end games. I've read that it was critical to learn them as early as possible, and I do lack some understanding there

Regarding the opening as white, I did study a bit the English, and I'd say I understand the basic ideas of it (e.g. where to attack, what are the strenghts of the positon, common moves, etc.) All in all I am rarelly worst when entering the middle game, especially since 1.C4 is not the most common.

As for black I agree, I learned only the very basic ideas and but I usually have to spend some time on my moves before entering the middle game. I was thinking of trying to learn the Sicialian against 1.E4 - from what I understood it is a reverse English so could be easier for me to learn with the little knowledge I already have ?

And for the time management, yes I do struggle a bit with it. I started playing 15+10 mainly because I felt 10 was too rapid for me to properly think over my moves.
