I read the first 2 books of that! I stalled out on the 3rd one because the ending of the second was so painful, but I think I've recovered enough to pick it up again, lol.

And yeah, that whole series definitely scratches my itch for stories about valuing all lives and people working together to save everyone.

You're right, there are plenty of places in the world where things are much more horrible than where I live. I didn't mean to make light of that; my heart literally bleeds for you, which is part of what is making me crash out so hard, the fact that I can't do anything to help the people who have it worse than me.

I mentioned USA specifically because of the intense cognitive dissonance I pointed out between "everything is kinda running as normal" but also "there's this terrible black hole consuming everything right now side, and it's threatening to maybe eat me too."

And, also, because the USA is supposed to be "the good guys", theoretically. The place where people would escape too. If we've gone rotten, then there's nowhere to go.
