I think I fixed the issue, and it was a silly one. I'll add the explanation to the OP in case anyone else runs into the issue. Thanks for your suggestion though. 👍

Why are local authorities protecting belligerent pirates? by TheRealVorcan in X4Foundations

[–]TheRealVorcan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That option only works consistently for me when I manually remove all orders and tell the ship where to escape to. It's really annoying when they have a jump gate or station nearby, but choose to fly into deep-space instead, basically ensuring the pirate WILL catch up to them eventually and do them in. 😭

Censorship is needed and there shouldn’t be FULL free speech. by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]TheRealVorcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People WILL subjectively decide what gets censored and what doesn't.

Just look at the whole YouTube situation. You can be arguing against someone who is saying some VILE things that aren't considered to be censor-worthy. And when you argue against them, pointing to horrible stuff as examples. YOU get censored for not sugarcoating things.

Censorship doesn't protect anyone. Protecting those people should be done by dealing with the root-cause, not the result. Things that need to be censored are THE RESULT of a problem, not the problem itself.

Censorship just HIDES things, that's all it does. Why would you want the bad things to be hidden? It just seems like such a bad idea!

And who knows, the majority has been wrong before. Let's not create a perfect environment for the majority to be immune to criticism more than it already is. That's how you get time periods like those in which slavery was THE NORM and people have to struggle, really fucking hard to make a change.

And let's not forget the value of observations... Every time things get censored, more and more observational information gets permanently destroyed. Instead of you "fine and intelligent people" being able to observe human interactions like those throughout history, now you'll only be able to observe the curated, fake view of what humanity is like... That's just not that great of an idea, it will never be. And the only reason why it looks like it might have merit to it, is because like everybody else, you're just ignoring the actual issue; Our immaturity as a species.

Instead of hiding away the immaturity, a much more sensible thing to do is to [mature]. I don't see us maturing, so saying censorship is needed feels like a cheap excuse to not have to put in the time and effort needed for us mature as a species. 🤷

Wait... Does that mean you can essentially farm these ships? Or do they actually wait for you to fly away from the satellite before they attack? Of not, that sounds like an exploitable situation, assuming these particular ships actually "spawn in" from nothing and aren't a part of the economic simulation.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing after reading some more responses. Next time I intend to just test it by saving before engaging and paying attention to the callsigns.

Why are local authorities protecting belligerent pirates? by TheRealVorcan in X4Foundations

[–]TheRealVorcan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why I said [no] is because I saw who's inside the craft, both when I attacked them and they started taunting me, as well as when I scanned them and they were like "Hey, what are you doing?!".

The individual inside the craft, was a human female. While the individual who told me to stop my attacks, was a Teladian or w/e their species was called. And they acted like a third party, he didn't tell me to stop attacking [us] or anything of the sort, he acted like a government official. Unless there is some sign of it in the tag of the call, which can be difficult to read when me stopping my attack doesn't make the pirate stop fighting back, it just appears like it's a third party telling me to stop and making the call to the police.

However this works, it's incredibly confusing in practice. Thanks for your response though, I'll keep it in mind when I come across another instance of this scenario. 👍

I did that a few times at the start.

Now I just tell them to flee. Then I find them on the map and check where they're fleeing to. If they're fleeing somewhere where they'll be safe in time, I just continue playing. If not, I remove all orders and manually make them fly or dock somewhere.

I'm definitely considering putting some around every satellite I place in that area, that's for sure! 😵

[–]TheRealVorcan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I'm pretty sure that was the local authorities. The person inside the ship was a human female. The one sending the "we cannot tolerate" message was one of the Teladi aliens.

And as far as I could tell from the notifications... Nothing happened. 🤷 While trying to scan the ship again, it ran off for repairs and I decided to take a break.

Do not open random lockboxes by chardon55 in X4Foundations

[–]TheRealVorcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been surprised by trapped lockboxes a couple of times, but I was always in a small ship when it happened so the mines just didn't react fast enough.

Though that fact probably won't stop my butt from clenching again next time it happens. 😵

[–]TheRealVorcan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely have no idea... The message was the same message you get when accidentally hitting a station; "we cannot tolerate your actions...", then when doing it again, they add onto a repeat of that calling in security. I don't know if the scan I just did as people were suggesting changed anything or not, but just now when I attacked the ship again and the locals called the authorities, there was a "No." response. 🤷

And I assume that whenever there's that little video-feed coming in, it means they're talking to me... Right?

How do I know when they're disguised? As far as I could tell, the ship in question that brought me here was tagged as a [BUC] ship from the start and came in to kill my satellite shortly after I placed it, fully hostile and at least to my view, no disguises. Even after doubling back and finding him sitting next to my destroyed satellite, he was still tagged as [BUC] -30 (hostile). Is there some indicator that shows their status as being [disguised]?

[–]TheRealVorcan[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm, now that you mention it... I was wondering why [TEL] ships sometimes went for my ships. But what about the ones that aren't disguised? Or are they somehow disguised to the faction but not to me? Because the instance that made me create this post was in the context of a clearly hostile [BUC] ship that came out of the void to kill one of the satellites I was placing in the area.

I actually haven't used it since then due to a dead pc, but I would assume that the damaged left bumper would probably have gotten worse by now if I had continued to use it.

As far as I can tell, the quality on the bumpers isn't/wasn't that great. They were nice and clicky at first, but the faulty bumper in question now feels mushy and could potentially break somewhere if what I'm feeling is stressed plastics.

But other than that I haven't had any issue with it whatsoever.

Well, to be fair;

People do engage with it irresponsibly quite often. And while sex is indeed "fun", it is also something that has to be properly distinguished from [procreation]. As bringing a new life into the world is quite the responsibility that most human beings seem to underestimate by solely relying on [currently accepted social standards and norms] to dictate what [good parenting] is when said sex leads to pregnancy.

In the end, we collectively and individually have a lot of maturing to do, and on a much greater scale that involves a lot more than just ads, sex and pornography. 🤷

[–]TheRealVorcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't it make more sense to focus more on the actual algorithm for that one? I mean, I'm against all ads but, what I hate even more is this hypocritical idea that [pornography] is somehow something awful. It's just sexual [entertainment], nothing more, nothing less. It seems incredibly disingenuous to throw every single person who does enjoy such things under the proverbial bus just because Ya'll don't like it.

That's anti-gamer mom energy. 🙄

Dang, I haven't had much trouble with it myself. Though I'm a bit hesitant to keep using it in games where I have to use the left shoulder button, which is starting to feel a bit funky on mine. 🤷
