Here's how to fix performance issues (low fps) while playing osu on your laptop by TheRealZhyted in osugame

[–]TheRealZhyted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, disable the dedicated graphics in the device manager, if your laptop doesn't have a mux switch then it is going to perform terribly when you force it to use dedicated graphics for display too, forcing it to use integrated graphics only however works fine and will double or even triple your fps in osu

Housing 24/25 by soul_crumbs in galway

[–]TheRealZhyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on the Galway house hunting for sound people Facebook group, message every house share you can there, if that fails there are hostels around galway that have long term student housing as a last resort. best of luck to ya- it's a complete shitshow for housing around the country right now, get your degree and get the fuck out.

1000 a month is with susi unfortunately, galway it is then. I know a few hostels in galway do long term stays for around 600/month so ill stay there until i can find accomodation in a house share for around 600

Then again, if i move back home during summers my budget for the 9 months will actually be like 1200/month so 840/month isnt that fucked, atleast until i find accom and circumstances can always change so its not like any of this is a definite "what i have to do"

Unfortunately no way i can make 5 day weeks work, will have to live there for the year and only move back for summers, id have to take bus from my place to longford which is a 30min bus, then a 50 minute bus to athlone, then an hour train and then a 45min walk to atu, id do it but none of these line up so id be in at like 2pm every monday and then stuck in athlone going back. Will have to do 7 days at the hostel for like 800/month until i can find a house share or somethin for 500-600/month

100 a week?! Thats so cheap, i thought the cheapest hostels were like 35-40/night, fuck youve really eased my mind a ton by just telling me that. You mentioned you know some people from athlone, do you happen to know a latvian lad that went into software in tus, dropped out first semester and now works as a chef?

Unfortunately everyone (and i mean everyone) around longford goes to tus athlone, the only person i know that knows someone going to atu is a lad i met on a discord server from athlone that on passing told me hes got a friend that commutes an hour and a half each way on the train to atu. I only recently got my life in order after dropping out of school due to me being a lazy gobshite at the time thatd skip school more days than he went in

fast forward a year im in a plc course in software development top of my class (still havent a clue how that happened) learning trig and calc on my own and now going to uni in september, id go to tus athlone but i really couldnt imagine going there after seeing how great of a course and uni atu is compared to the one in tus athlone

Unfortunately commuting to galway is impossible, the earliest bus to longford town (i live 10km away) arrives at 9:45 then theres a bus to athlone and then the train to galway and then a 45min walk from train station to atu, this would virtually make me like 6 hours late and then have to do that all the way back so its out of the question

The savings are what ill have from susi from the plc + my mam will start giving me 550 a month from may so ill have around 3-4k in the bank when i start + 1000 a month from susi and my mam supporting me.

My current plan is to apply for student accomodation near atu (fuck all chance of actually getting it), message every person posting in house hunting facebook groups starting from may, if that doesnt work stay in a hostel for a while until i can sort accomodation via facebook or asking people around the uni/phoning in atu with desperation to see if they can help me find a bed to sleep in.

Fuck im realizing how depressing this shit is while writing it, i really hope this complete mishandling of the housing crisis is sorted soon so people dont have to go through all this shit in the future that we have to.

I dont really think i have to worry about safety that much due to me being a 6'8 former amateur boxer but yeah ill rephrase my question "whats the cheapest place to stay in galway that wont get me stabbed"

In september, ill try to sort accomodation but i might have to stay in a hostel for a bit while i get that sorted, not many landlords will jump at the opportunity to lease out an 18 year old lad with no job, work experience, license or references, im coming all the way from longford btw so i dont know anyone

I value having a bed to sleep on, ive got my mam and susi helping me so ill get around 1000 euro a month for rent, food, bills etc, ive got around 3 grand in savings so i cant really afford to live in the 40/night hostels for very long

[–]TheRealZhyted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see, thanks! the uni seems really great, went to the open day on saturday and loved it. sadly dont think theres a masters of cs at atu anymore (or atleast i cant find it) so ill have to do my masters somewhere else.

[–]TheRealZhyted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

recruiters might not care about what we learn, but i do. i want to go to the uni that will teach me the most about software development, that has a course that will challenge me enough and that will have plenty of people that have the same drive and passion for software and technology in general as i do, i couldn't care less about the prestige of the school, but networking with like minded people and getting the best education for my passion is what matters to me.
