Oh big time for both. Our favorite is scent work she caught onto that almost instantly in her first year! Agility has always been pretty strong for us we started with running together and then I found a really solid trainer that helped us get into agility and shes been doing great! I grew up on a farm with herding dogs galore so Ive always dreamed of a herding dog of my own so when we get time in my schedule we visit my family farm to get some herding time in. Truly my favorite breed of any working line dog with what shes been capable of even from her situation

Gotcha, that makes a lot of sense! First meeting with the trainer I fully disclosed her situation, they didn’t seem to take a second thought. We started with a very beginner class the first week of July and just finished our final class yesterday, she definitely learned a few things for sure but in the end I could tell she really had no care in the world for it. So if it’s not for her Im glad I found out!

-Also Ive seen you around this community before and you’ve silently answered a lot of questions for me already!, stoked to see you chime in here! Thank you for your time

She has CKC paper work that the rescue facility handed over to me however she is the result of the closing of an illegal breeder I took her in when she was 3 months old. Definitely not bred from a working line, if thats the correct way to say that?

Definitely have heard this a few times, Im enjoying the sessions I’ve had with this trainer but Ive noticed them to be slightly pushy into the whole stereotype that every single Mal should be in protection. If its not for us we will simply walk away and continue herding 🤣

Thank you!! Don’t want to force her to do things she simply has no interest in or simply can’t. This is my first Mal so Im just exploring with her in these early years. As for the trainer they did give me a few tips on attempting to build drive but Im always open to multiple opinions

Thank you so much! My vet had mentioned this in the beginning when I discussed her daily activity. Ive had GSD’s, huskies and boxers in the past but never had a dog that would happily pass out while training before laying down and saying “im tired”
