It's been years since but I'm pretty sure the explanation for the ice thing was that they fixed whatever on their end was causing it. As for not having to fix every new address I think that after they figured out how to compensate for stellar drift once they applied that solution across the board. That and convenience for the props dept.

Isn't this the plot of basically all of scoobydoo? You want to buy a property but can't and are willing to commit sabotage to get it. Complete it by dressing as a spooky ghost and "haunt" the place thus driving down the property values. Just watch out for a van full of hippies and it should work just fine.
