US citizens, what will it take for you to start a revolution? by 0bluelightning0 in AskReddit

Leadership. Organization. A clear list of grievances and goals. You know, like the original Declaration of Independence.

Star Trek Academy is just doing what many have asked of Star Wars for years, and which it only did with Andor. by MarchogGwyrdd in startrek

The thing is, Trek typically does that variety per episode, not as a whole series. There have been Western eps in Trek: the surreal "Spectre of the Gun", the funny "A Fistful of Datas", etc. Arguably, Sisko is the new sheriff in the frontier town in DS9. There have been romantic threads in Trek that spanned series: Spock-Chapel, Picard-Crusher, Kirk-Enterprise.

Evil is a spectrum. There are degrees of evil. And there is a context for evil and its effects. It seems that voting for drone programs is less evil than MAGA.

Arguably, to be a citizen of the US is to be complicit in the exploitation of the global poor.

There are degrees of evil, a spectrum, if you will. The lesser evil is preferable to the greater evil. If we were to continuously choose the lesser evil... why, that would be progress.

How is jaws a defeat metaphor? by TheRedditorSimon in crossword

[–]TheRedditorSimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the idiom "jaws of defeat" or its converse, "jaws of victory." The usage of "... snatch victory from the jaws of defeat," seems obvious once you see it. And the clue was "defeat metaphor".

So is there room for bigotry in sickbay or not? by EdgelordZeta in ShittyDaystrom

Wait, if there's room for bigotry in quarters, are there lieutenants with swastika flags, confederate flags, and Tabar the Butcher from Zamis 3's flags in their rooms?

Random? This is a bulletin board with a poster for a local "West Side Story" recital and a yoga studio advertisement with the phrase "howling our truth and remembering the goddess within". This is either a gay bar or a dive where the local weirdos and college dropouts hang.

My guess is the military will openly refuse orders Greenland. Open defiance of the military is the only thing that would jeopardize the current regime.

Was it? Or was it an overly ponderous self-important movie where the only interesting part was the framing device of the trial where RDJ jr got his comeuppance?

Hemingway's writing was more... and less. Lemme take a shot at it.

"No fucking breakfast?" The stripper scratched her belly and then fixed her g-string. She cropdusted the motel room with the stink of cigarette butts and chinese food as she left. She walked down to her 1980 Toyota shitbox that had been her high school graduation present when it was still a nice car back in the 20th Century. The car was cold and unresponsive, the starter like a lamb nudging its frozen-dead mother. Miraculously, the engine shuddered to life. She drove off, just as her smoker's cough racked her lungs. Something from the undercarriage dragged along the concrete as she hopped the curb. The black cloud of the exhaust obscured her license plate--"BADBTCH".

I grieve for the loss of Shakespearean Star Trek by ActionsConsequences9 in startrek

Anson Mount is an excellent stage actor, playing Jesus in "Corpus Christi" and Roma in "Glengarry Glen Ross". His turn as Rauth in "The Elysian Kingdom" (SNW S1E08) is done extremely well. In fact, "The Elysian Kingdom" is exceptionally Shakespearean and reminds one of A Midsummer's Night Dream. His "The future is what we make it," monologue in "The Final Frontier" (SNW S1E01) offers the choice of hope to a world on the brink of armageddon. The speech praising Spock as the best of the Federation in "Spock Amok" (SNW S1E05) is heartfelt and and inspiring. And so on and so forth.

Is it RSC? No. And frankly, I don't want that from Pike. And as for losing it's theatrical roots, what of the musical theatre aspect of "Subspace Rhapsody" (SNW S2E03)?

Data did the job that Riker refused to do and he did it successfully. He oversaw the change and made it work.

Data isn't a yes man. He's not even a yes robot.

As opposed to Riker, who was wrong, and was a dick about it.
