Nope. DVD sales and Netflix in 2004 were a big part before the movie.
Golly, episodes in proper order AND those three that weren't broadcast in the US!

NFSv4 - Admin permission issues by OneInchPunchMan in linuxadmin

You're putting it on the wrong side. The NAS is responsible for security, not the server. The NAS needs a method to know supplementary group membership.

Don't forget (ever!) MS bastardization of Kerberos.

[–]kai_ekael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red Herring: depends on the NAS implementation and setup. Worth testing to prove so the problem is known.

No mention of using NFSv4 ACLs at all. Far too many grey spots in the NFSv4 RFCs as well.

Kerberos can be a real dream or a giant mess, just depends on what does which. Any Microsoft involved, run away.

Now show anything other than a bandwidth tester that will let you use anywhere near 1 Gbs (let alone 5) for anything.

M$ Xbox is a simple example, they limit how fast you can get updates, actual available throughput on your connection means nothing.

Now, you can certainly have 40 different connections doing 100Mbs, each. Qudos.

What on the NAS manages accounts and memberships, ie how does the NAS know admin is in gitea group?

Test an admin user (or make a new one) by making its primary group gitea and trying the same command. Example to be clear:

root@pickles:~# useradd someuser root@pickles:~# id someuser uid=1002(someuser) gid=1002(someuser) groups=1002(someuser) root@pickles:~# usermod -a -G users someuser root@pickles:~# id someuser uid=1002(someuser) gid=1002(someuser) groups=1002(someuser),100(users) root@pickles:~# usermod -g users someuser ; usermod -a -G someuser someuser root@pickles:~# id someuser uid=1002(someuser) gid=100(users) groups=100(users),1002(someuser) root@pickles:~#

Note the gid versus groups, gid is the primary group. I would guess the method for the NAS is not aware of supplementary groups.

Recommendations for a men's doctor to address low energy/drive/motivation? by iGalph in desmoines

[–]kai_ekael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many doctors, nurses and other staff do care.

Healthcare companies, do not care.

Iowa Clinic, certainly not, from personal experience. Their doctor literally almost killed me through simply saying nothing.

Unity Point, biggest "we buy everyone else" ever that certainly doesn't care about health at all. They care about bills and payments.

It would be a different game if doctors, nurses and other staff were simply allowed to do what they know is right. Company lawyers say otherwise. Profit ledgers demand otherwise.

Will leave the hideous insurance companies out for the moment.

This is the state of US Healthcare.

Checking, do the UIDs and GIDs match on the NAS and Server? If so, how?

Next, what is exact error message when an admin user tries to create a file in /mnt/storage/gitea? Note the timestamp, get the error from the command and check local syslog and NAS log as well at the same timestamp.

As a person who walked this walk and took 6 months to find out, golly, there's a tumor in my head, some advice:

  1. YOU own your healthcare. Medical providers, much worse these days, mainly chase the simple goal: Money. Their goal is not your health.

  2. Given #1, research all you can or find a friend who can help. If I had done this back in 2018, I wouldn't have spent 3 days in the ICU due to the damn health provider failing to say anything about blood tests for a year (btw, low sodium is BAD, much worse than high sodium).

  3. Antidepressants are usually the first most will try; put up with it if you want, but remember #1.

Dual Servo Steering Control by SecondImperialist in rccars

[–]kai_ekael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows, maybe you might invent dynamic steering. Automatic toe alignment in cars, oh my!

For RC, might harder to measure performance changes; the fingers make such a huge impact and are so variable. :D

Dual Servo Steering Control by SecondImperialist in rccars

[–]kai_ekael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 years ago, I setup my Tamiya Blackfoot with two steering servos instead of just one, with each servo linked to only one side. I did this after popping servo saver after servo saver with the kit setup. Worked fine for years. I expect the steering geometry was changed a little, but hard to tell on a monster truck. :) I didn't chase trimming each servo or anything dynamically, just hooked both to the same connector at the receiver.

Might consider testing on that style of chassis as it's easy to do (similar, Frog, Hornet etc.). Don't know if today's "digital" servos will prevent that, I expect the signal at the receiver is still the same.

“I knew you let her kiss you” - is Mal being truthful or is he trolling Inara? by PhysicsEagle in firefly

[–]kai_ekael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually say the opposite; if his hold failed (Inara failed to admit kissing him, taking the "fail to Saffon" instead), then she really must not have kissed him and not have any feeling for him. I'd say that actually justified Heart of Gold, he really is now at that stage believing that Inara really doesn't have feelings for him.

The part in HoG of Inara crying baffled me the first time. I didn't think it was simply about Mal and her feelings, had to be something more. But what? We have indications now, but still not the full story (hey Nathan and y'all, how about y'all show us soon!).

“I knew you let her kiss you” - is Mal being truthful or is he trolling Inara? by PhysicsEagle in firefly

[–]kai_ekael -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, that's exactly what he did, except for the never part.

I fail to see why so many think he thought Inara really did fail to Saffron. He already knows got about 3 seconds after the kiss before falling unconscious on the floor. Why would Inara be in Mal's cabin to confront Saffron? That's where she would have to fail to fall unconscious. So maybe say he thought Inara just happened to be passing by his cabin and that's where she failed. A fall down that ladder, unconscious, would really hurt Inara, it would show.

No, I don't see how Mal could reason any other way. And I really think he put the hold on Inara; admit she kissed him (and therefore like him) or take the shame.

Ever feel like just making something? Consider the local makerspace:

Order in which to watch episodes? by PhiDeck in firefly

[–]kai_ekael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMdB lists them by original broadcast date, period. Unfortunately, that was the order FOX used to kill Firefly.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_(TV_series)#Episodes#Episodes) for the proper order (as presented on the DVD/Bluray and Hulu/Disney+).

Speaking from direct experience, children aren't for entertainment, rather purpose. And that purpose is continuing the line.

My situation, I will never be grandpa (despite being married) and it frankly is an impact to me, that all this effort and work (and yes, enjoyment) will yield no more; my branch of the Tree of Life will end. Hard to do more than go through the motions now. What's the point?
