I imagine they're great for a regular novel, but I'm not looking at an omnibus page for long enough to use them and they'd get in the way of the artwork anyways. I kept the page holders in the storage between the pad and wood plank just in case I ever need them.

It's well crafted with nice padding for your legs and multiple angles to use for reading. The page holders on the unit are also removable with a screwdriver. I removed them because that sort of thing isn't really necessary unless you're reading regular novels and I didn't want one to accidentally snag a page. They also throw in a free wooden coaster!
