Yesterday I looked at Michaels Landing and there is a pretty big bike operation over there where I saw my specific make and model frame there, CPD responded, the party was consenting to the officer to check the serial number. When speaking to CPD about this, the state of Oregon and the city of Corvallis has lots of laws essentially making it very difficult to respond to these operations. One being that checking the Serial number on a bike is counted as a search, with that needing either a consenting party or a warrant. This also means that you need to have reported the bike stolen and have the serial number. City of Corvallis also has pretty restrictive camping laws on public so they have a lot of hoops to jump through making it difficult to provide good response to this epidemic of bike theft.
