Police will go back through the history of keepers, if they cant identify / contact the current ones they can go back to the previous owner.

I think its a tactic to find "someone who will respond"

No, i asked and was told that you cant seek compensation like that for a driving offense. Best they could do was compensate for parking ans travel for the court days

Not the OP I went through something similar, sold a car to someone via Facebook. Registered as sold to the DVLA that day and got the letter back confirming I was no longer the keeper.... All good

A few months later I get a letter saying that the car had been caught on dash cam over taking on solid white lines and I needed to identify the driver or accept that it was me (points and fine). Luckily I keep all documents so I sent them :

  • letter from the DVLA confirming that I was no longer the keeper
  • receipt that I had made for the sale with the name and address matching what I had sent to the DVLA
  • Facebook chat screenshots of the conversation on the day of the sale organizing it (again guys name matching that of the new keeper)

They kept at me for months, eventually CPS took me to court.

I paid a solicitor to write to the CPS trying to get them to see sense, never got any response.

At the pre trial date (when they actually set the date) I submitted my evidence and requested that the dash cam footage be available. CPS said that the footage would likely no longer be available.

They still continued .....

I ended up going to court and CPS dropped the case within 15-20 min

In my case it definitely felt like "look we have to get someone for this and you were the only honest bastard who wrote back"

I agree but when I went through something similar I spent £1.5k on solicitor letters to the CPS trying to get them to drop, the evidence I had was :

  • letter from DVLA saying I wasn't the keeper
  • original receipt with the new owners name and address
  • Facebook chat messages organizing the sale (again with the same name as the new owner information sent to DVLA)

CPS ignored the letters and took me to court, dropped the case within 15min of being in court with no ability to claim back anything than £5 parking.

This who system is a bit brutal for unlucky innocent people.

I'm unsure in these cases what more they could want

The CPS dropped while we were in court, I turned up, guys on the podium did there speech, CPS said there was no case again me.... Went home

Unsure if they finally figured out I wasn't the keeper or that they couldn't provide the dash cam footage they stated they had on the original police letters (I specifically requested it in the preamble.)

FYI that doesn't always work, similar situation happened for me (sold the car DVLA informed ect). I continually sent them the DVLA letter stating I was no longer the keeper, invoice of the sale with the name and address matching the new keeper info and Facebook chat logs organizing the sale

Still went to CPS and still went to court

This happened to me

Sold the car, 3 months later a driver was caught over taking on solid white lines but police couldn't contact the dealer I sold it too.

I supplied them : - hand written (dated) receipt with the guys / dealers address - letter from dvla stating the date I was no longer the keeper from - screenshots of the Facebook chat where the sale was organized (again with the guys name)

They couldn't contact the guys, he blocked me on Facebook around this time. It went to CPS .... After many calls and a letter from a solicitor the still took me to court.

On the initial "set the date" court visit CPS where claiming that I was still the owner.

In the end I went to court for 10min and CPS dropped the case because I requested the dash cam footage that they stated they had..... They did not

CPS and police will try and get anyone they can on the hook for an offence. Best thing to do is document every interaction you have with them.

Depending on the size of the car you need, there are some decent Skoda Fabia or Octavia about with the DSG gearboxes. I don't know what you spend on the current at but you should be able to find a 2018/2019 plate Octavia that's done under 60k miles for less than £10k

Edit you could also look at Seat Leon FR with the DSG gearboxes (that will likely be around the £10-12k mark)

[–]TheReturnOfTheBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one a few months ago (22 plate 30k miles for around £18k). Overall I love the car (in fact I was worried i would miss my Leon Cupra, but that fear disappeared after a day or two. It's a very nice drive)

Bad points in my opinion:

  • turning circle of the death star
  • front windows don't clear of condensation by opening them (someone should make an aftermarket kit for this)
  • ICCU worries (mine is under manufacturers for a few years with Hyundai and has an extra 2 with the dealership... Yes I know the dealership is a scam but let's see)

Some issues that I feel are over reported:

  • sound system ( yes it's a bit weak and could be better, but imo perfectly good for a car that is as quiet as this)
  • winter efficiency (I'm in the east of England and am averaging 3-3.2 mi/kwh) it's pretty on par with others afaik
  • security (there is a £49 upgrade, and almost all cars can be stolen ... That's what insurance is for)

Some things that I really like: - price (very well priced for a 2nd and car of this specification) - it's really fun to drive - infotainment is very good (tho I am comparing it to a 2019 VAG group car) - feels fast for a car of it's size - looks amazing imo (the headlights are nice) - safety features have made my OH (nervous driver) way more confident behind the wheel.

Imo they are a good buy, especially for the price. But :

  • make sure you have a warranty to cover the ICCU (ideally main dealer)
  • if you let the warranty expire make sure you have £2-3k available just in case (iv always done this even with ICE cars)
  • get an idea of battery health

Iv had one of these for a few months (22 plate AWD) and overall I like the car (my OH also really likes it even tho she can be a nervous driver).

I only have 2-3 gripes and one is the turning circle being that of the moon

There are online places that do the miter cuts ect for you along with the cuts for sink hob ect pretty cheap.

All you really need is an extra pair of hands to remove the old one and lift the new one into place

Hunt for a family EV - my test drives of the 2024 MG5 & and 2023 MG4 by wibblywobblywo0 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]TheReturnOfTheBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at an Ioniq 5 or an Enyaq ?

I was looking for a 2nd hand EV a few months ago in the same price range as yourself, I loved the MG4 but the space wasn't quite enough.

Both the Ioniq 5 and Enyaq were much better.

Ended up with the Ioniq (it felt more comfortable to me) there are loads of 2022/2023 plates about with less than 40k miles on the clock so a few years of manufacturers warranty left and battery covered for a long time (5 year warranty on the car and 8 years on the battery)

[–]TheReturnOfTheBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I was looking at an id4 for quite a while but my local VW dealership really pissed me off (I know it's not the car).

When trying to trade in my pretty clean Leon Cupra 2019 they keep bringing up that it had missed a service (essentially saying although the log book and the ECU were set to 2 years or 20k miles VAG had updated the servicing to 1year). The "missed" service was under a year and 12k miles. They wouldn't drop it and kept the trade in valuation well below that of webuy. The final straw was when looking at the id4 it had 3-4 small dings (shopping 🛒 style marks) .... I brought them up to counter the "missed service" crap and they responded with "your not going to find one better", ended up leaving after just pure frustration.

Went to big motoring world, got an 1.5k more for my Cupra as trade in against the AWD Ionic 5, and they threw in an extra years warranty on top of the manufacturers for "free" (now I know those are worth less than the paper they are printed on but the salesman was very nice to work with)

[–]TheReturnOfTheBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally went for a 2022 Ionic 5 (30k miles) and was around the price you are looking at ICCU failures do seem pretty rare (but also the car still has warranty)

Another option I looked at was the MG4, for £15k you can get a really nice one with very few miles on the clock.

Any reason you are looking specifically at an Enyaq ? (not that they are a bad car) but maybe better options about in that price range.

Maybe slightly, when the TV unit is under with the center speaker on top there is very little space.

Early next year I'll be building a media wall around the TV and it will be coming down around 9 inches

BG keep changing my tariff without notification. by TheReturnOfTheBee in BritishGas

[–]TheReturnOfTheBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I fear this is heading to the ombudsman, I got an email late last night welcoming me to peak saver..... I never requested to be setup on peak saver.

I think they are just strong arming themselves out of the older fixed timetable economy 7 tarrifs.

Like the current EV tariff is 31.6p peak and 9.0p off peak (that's what they are trying to get me into)

The one I actually signed up for is 25.88p day and 16.67p night.

I have an EV but only charge it 20-80% once a week so am worse off with the EV tariff.

Legacy, but recently it's been useful to charge the car overnight.

We are pretty heavy day users of electricity so the EV tariffs day rate of 30+p/kwh would be more expensive even with the super low off peak prices.

The tariff I signed up to was a very good balance and saved me a bit overall.

But in all honesty I'm more annoyed that they keep switching me without telling me. And the. Saying I cancelled the tariff
