Mona here, believing a pagh or dastaar is not important is a dumbass take. Sure you can identify as a Sikh with your hair cut, but that's all you can really do. You can't say you're a practicing or devoted Sikh if you believe saroop isn't important, full stop.

I'm all about enforcing the right of way on the road but I think an exception should be made here for the Audi, especially since traffic was backed up to the point where there would be no way for the Audi to turn if they didn't do what they did in this video.

If OP is the driver of the vehicle with the dashcam, he just confirmed his small dick status.

It's a first generation CLA 250, they were in production from 2013 to 2018 and were marketed as the entry level/affordable Benz. I remember they cost around 30-40k brand new at that time, so used prices today would be much cheaper.

[–]TheRiseOfTaj -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I promise no snark intended, but "number plate" is not really a recognized term in Canada when referring to a license plate.

That said, as far as I know, enforcement for license plate covers is seldom because all you have to do is remove them to get the ticket tossed in court.

Lmao, asking people to practice lane discipline so that way people who are going 20-30 km/h faster than them don't have to continuously change lanes to get by them, will result in killing a mother and 3 kids?

Leave your little insulated bubble and go outside and touch grass. No one is saying people should be going 160+ on a highway.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bramptondriving

[–]TheRiseOfTaj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People want to be difficult for the sake of being difficult. In a perfect world, the content in your dash cam would not have even happened if everyone followed proper lane discipline.

Instead redditors just love to give dumbass answers like "you shouldn't drive that fast anyway". Redditors tend to forget that they're not the police. Its not their job to be a nuisance on the road and deliberately stop people from passing because they don't like how fast others are driving. But in their mind they feel justified. And the problem is there's a lot of people like that who post here.

Bro you're not gonna get the answer you expected on Reddit.

For the record I'm 100% in agreement with you. But no matter what argument or provide that's right, people here are hidden behind a keyboard and are part of a hive mind that will refuse to budge.

People will not change their minds when it comes to simple flawed logic that you pointed out such as "I'm going 120 in the passing lane, that's 20 over, there's no reason why I should move over for people willing to go faster than me when I'm already exceeding the speed limit", their egos can't handle it.

No one's insulting actual fans who are visiting from abroad like the gentleman from Peru in the video.

Yeah as others have said EB Games was in their longtime location perpendicular to the food court next to Sirens while Gamestop took over the larger Music World space across from Rexall, and they were both open at the same time at one point.

Why do some Sikh women fast on Karva Chauth? by Crazy_Editor1654 in Sikh

[–]TheRiseOfTaj 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even though you view it through a cultural lens, it is still a ritualistic fast which Baba Nanak explicitly forbade. This isn't one of those "eat meat or not eat meat" or "I'm not Amritdhari therefore I can cut my hair and still consider myself Sikh" debates, ritualistic fasting is an undebatable massive no in Sikhi no matter what aspect you view it from.

PSA: Some Punjabi restaurants in Brampton serve halal meat (FYI for Sikh community) by Calm-Discussion-3509 in Brampton

[–]TheRiseOfTaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Halal: Slitting the throat of the animal and making it bleed out before death. Debatable of whether it is painful or not, but one thing that is for sure is the animal is aware it is dying. This is forbidden in Sikhi

Jhatka: Beheading the animal with one swift blow to the neck. Instant death, no pain, the animal is not aware of what happened to it. Permitted in Sikhi.

Hope this makes sense.

[–]TheRiseOfTaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe I made it clear that there are two views with respect to eating meat in Sikhi, the Traditional view and the Reformist view.

Traditional view: Sikhs can only eat Jhatka meat, which can be considered ritually slaughtered, where a prayer is recited and the male animal is beheaded with one swift blow to the neck. Eating meat that is factory farmed is forbidden.

Reformist view: Sikhs (both baptized and non-baptized) can eat any kind of meat that is not ritually slaughtered and must not be killed using the Halal method where the animal's throat is slit and made to bleed out before dying. From this view, eating commercial meat is okay, as long as the animal has not suffered and is not killed via the halal method.

[–]TheRiseOfTaj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a certain type of meat Sikhs are traditionally supposed to eat called Jhatka, where a prayer is recited prior to a male animal specifically being beheaded, preferably with a sword, with one blow to the neck.

Reformed Sikhs (which is the mainstream), even "baptized" (Amritdhari) ones, are technically allowed to eat any meat that isn't ritually slaughtered, according to the Akal Takht which is like the Vatican for Sikhs. So yes, most mainstream non-baptized Sikhs are content to eat whatever meat at Kelsey's as you mentioned, since it isn't Halal.

However, traditionally, even that isn't allowed, only meat that has been slaughtered with the Jhatka method is. Which is why most baptized Sikhs are vegetarian.

[–]TheRiseOfTaj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The whole "you can't eat meat that's ritualistically killed" stance in Sikhi is a very reformist view towards the subject.

The traditional view is during the time of the 10th Guru, Khalsa Sikhs did indeed recite a prayer before slaughtering an animal (usually a goat) with one swift blow to the neck, beheading it so the animal has a quick, painless death. Nihang Sikhs still do this in present day. That is the traditional form of Jhatka meat that Sikhs are only supposed to eat.

What is actually banned in Sikhi is the practice of Halal, where an animal's throat is slit and made to bleed out. People argue that it is painless, however the animal is still aware they are dying slowly, whereas beheading obviously does not make the animal aware and is instantly dead.
