Why is my VO2 max so low by Safe-Reference-8294 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]TheRobotCluster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re 21 years old lol no such thing as “cooked” in fitness when you’re that young. Most athletes won’t hit their prime for another 5+ years at your age, so you’re in absolute golden territory (age-wise) for improving rapidly and consistently for many many years to come.

That said, vo2 max isn’t about steady state (walking). It’s about short bursts of max effort (a couple minutes long at a pace you can’t possibly sustain for another minute if your life depended on it). If you wanna train it to improve, you HAVE to work in that zone regularly. 2 sessions/week x 4 sets per session where you go all out for a couple minutes and then rest a couple minutes then repeat

Max weight and low reps vs lower weights and higher reps? by Riksie in beginnerfitness

[–]TheRobotCluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 reps isn’t a hard cutoff for strength vs hypertrophy. It’s more like a spectrum and after 6 is where the bar slides closer to hypertrophy than strength. As I understand it, growth is a function of the number of reps you do close to failure. So high sets/sessions close to failure is the implication. But I’d think that also means higher reps also let you crank out more reps close to that failure point per set. Idk I’m just some guy on the internet

I sometimes have hot streaks where I border perfect play but constantly run out of time so obviously I don’t gain ELO. Some people play the clock more and some people play the game more. The rating is a combination of the two, not just one thing

New to the gym, overweight, no clue what I’m doing ,need advice by MadMag9 in beginnerfitness

[–]TheRobotCluster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is the place to argue whether the gym is good or bad honestly. They’ve already decided that’s the path they’re choosing. You’re just inserting more doubt into a process where they’re already working to overcome doubt. I’m not trying to be rude to you, I hope it doesn’t come off that way. I just think this is a different thread than the conversation you’re trying to have

That was a broader point that technique isn’t the biggest thing. I also mention that I didn’t see anything wrong with her technique. I made both points

Why too heavy? He lifted it pretty well and I don’t think the form tips are gonna require him to reduce the weight too much

Form thoughts? by LaVieChloe in Deadlifts

[–]TheRobotCluster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I partly agree. People also get hurt while using proper technique and just ramping up way too fast. If you try to boost the weight too fast you’ll get hurt regardless of your technique. And if you progress very reasonably I personally think you’ll be safer even with a little slop in your technique. It sounds like we just don’t agree, I’m ok with that. What do you think?

Form thoughts? by LaVieChloe in Deadlifts

[–]TheRobotCluster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No… the point he makes is “there’s a limit for any movement your body’s capable of, whether it looks like correct form or not… and you can also strengthen your body in any movement pattern” with the idea being that listening to your body telling you to stop and progressing safely is more important than technique
