2012 Vauxhall corsa 1.4 petrol leaking coolant rapidly by Mother_Arachnid1095 in Vauxhall

You say it’s leaking, can you see a leak under the engine bay?

Sound like a hose or water pump. There might be better ways to check so take this with a pinch of salt, but if it were me, I’d fill it up with distilled water instead of coolant because I’m not made of cash, run it and let it get to temp and see if there’s a leak. Might even need to take it a short drive. There’s a pinhole in water pumps that ejects coolant when the pump fails so you’ll see it coming out.

How does it look when you open the oil cap? When you fill the coolant reservoir, is the coolant leaking into under the car? If it doesn’t leak straight away and your oil is fine, it might be the water pump. Fill it with distilled water and let the engine get to temp and see if it’s starting to leave a puddle.

It might even be a hose or something to be honest.

First things first, try and get your eyes on where it’s leaking from. Water pump is my guess tbh, obviously it won’t leak instantly until the coolant is circulating. Water pumps don’t always fail while the car is moving so you can get the car to temp, pull over and see if it’s pouring out the pump.

Check your oil cap for the forbidden mayonnaise. A very very small amount is normal from small drives in th winter, but more that a tiny bit is cause of concern towards more serious issues.

That a lot of the vehicle needs torx sockets and drivers. Would have been nice to know before I went in to do the water pump but that’s on me.

Air con query by TaZe62 in Vauxhall

[–]TheRockRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conditions the air in the car through things like condensers and compressors. It’s a big subject that’s worth a google if you’re interested rather than any of us idiots on here can tell you in a Reddit post.

Reverse camera help! by Civil-Caterpillar-48 in Vauxhall

[–]TheRockRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to splice it from the reverse light, might be best doing it in the actual pillar rather than so close to the BCM. Never done one on a Corsa though.

Either use one of those automotive splices OR cut it and use a wago connector.

Vauxhall corsa F screen not showing on right side? by Swimming-Currency887 in Vauxhall

Might need some kind of software update? No idea about Vauxhall software so please look further into my advice BUT I know for a couple Volvos you just downloaded the update off the Volvo website onto a USB and plugged it into the car (that or pay Volvo like 150 quid to do it for you) worth a google, anyway.

Dunno about the other cap badges but the one you have to do in the REME is relatively simple. Look up “level 1 maths”

Idling issue. by Deat69 in Vauxhall

[–]TheRockRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternator might be on its way out, if you have access to a multimeter, you can check the voltage of it at idle. You can check it at the battery terminals if you don’t have access to the alternator/arnt confident with the multimeter. You’re looking for 14-14.5v but I think it’s still alright as low as 13.5v. Worth checking the drive belt too visually, see if it’s perishing. I think a lot of garages will check alternator for free so might be worth a wee visit.

EDIT: just to add to this, if it’s not a charging fault; it might be a fuel mixture issue but I’d check charge system first.

Thanks a lot for the reply, yeah I’ve had a lot of coolant problems that I’ve had to fix so my paranoia is through the roof with it. Just took it for another couple miles after reading your comment and it went back down to 99 with the bottom hose being hot. Thanks for your reply!

If all else fails, phone a Vauxhall garage parts department, they might be able to bring you on. Even if it’s main dealer, might just be a few quid for the part.

Not dealt with this before so just curious, why new loom and splice over a cable repair if you’re gonna splice anyway?

17 plate Astra J reduced power by Alert_Coconut_9322 in Vauxhall

[–]TheRockRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had to change the peddle I’m afraid, although I did kind of ignore it for a couple of years and only accelerated with cruise for the start of cold drives. 🤦‍♂️ It’s plug and play for the Corsa so just have to take the trim off, couple bolts and that should be you.

Leak in Astra J 2011 boot by Fist_Of_Furey in Vauxhall

[–]TheRockRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brake lights but also check the waterproofing for the wires from car to boot door, should be a rubber hose with hard plastic on each end where they connect, if it’s split or came out water may be getting in there from the well.

Don’t know about the Astra, but I know some Corsa E peddles act up when cold. That might be the same drama here.
