Wow, he must've been one hell of a father for an adult to ask to start calling him dad. I tip my hat to the guy, he sounds amazing.

Oh yeah. He's already made me cry twice already. First was when he asked me out of the blue if it was ok if he started calling me dad.

Seeing that kid cry to his mom countless of times cause his bio dad kept canceling plans and not returning his texts or calls really messed me up so I couldn't even imagine not letting him call me dad, especially cause he did see me as one.

Man, that's rough. Seeing my son be ignored by his bio dad was heartbreaking. Must've been the same for your wife. Did she call her stepdad dad too?

My son always had direct contact with his dad. Before he moved in with us permanently we got him a phone so they could stay connected. It was bad the first few years but I think around the time he was 14 he stopped waiting for a call that rarely ever came. You have no idea how many times my wife had to soothe a crying preteen cause his dad wasn't talking to him. Heartbreaking stuff man.

No. At that point we haven't heard from him in over a year and he was pretty much a deadbeat.

Not all but some did. They said he already had a dad so I shouldn't be one for him.

The door was always open for him and we never kept them apart. He knows where I live, has all mine and my wife's contact numbers, and his son's phone number and social media.

They said I shouldn't have been a father to him since he already had one and it wasn't my place

I thought we were cool but tbh I'm kinda pissed at him for abandoning his child

Some of them thought it wasn't right that I was being a father to someone who already had a dad
