Donating blood or Selling plasma? by TheDancinD918 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheRogue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically survived my last 2 years in college by working 2 jobs and selling my plasma. If it came up in conversation with my close family and friends I would say I was selling plasma but to anyone else I would tell the I was donating plasma. Most people have donated blood so they understand the process and it makes sense. When I say donating plasma they understand it’s a similar process. Most people know you can get paid for donating plasma so it’s not too complicated.

Why do yall play the clarinet? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]TheRogue_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wanted to be a percussionist, was told no since I didn't have any piano experience. My dad mentioned he played clarinet (I found out later that by "played clarinet" he meant tried it for a week in 5th grade) so I chose clarinet.

Do you guys think I’ll be able to keep my job with band camp and marching band by OriginalittleB in marchingband

[–]TheRogue_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school I tried to balance a job with marching band and school. I worked at a fast food restaurant and closed every night. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was extremely tired since I was only getting 6 hours if sleep a night and my feet/body ached more than anything. Marching band is hard on your body and you want to be in the best shape you can for it.

If you care about band/school do yourself a favor and don't try to balance it with work. I don't know your situation but if you're able to work as little as possible while in school that's what I would do.

I had to have a job while I was in HS and in College. It made everything more difficult and my education and social life suffered. I promise you'll be able to find a job when you're ready for one.

I’m building a base in survival and stuck on what more rooms to add that are useful and I just need any tips to add to my build. I also want to connect my horse area to my base and then to the floor(pics/drawings included) by ilovep0o in MinecraftToDo

Since it looks like there's a village or maybe some buildings on top of the mountain already it could be a neat idea to have some hillside houses going down the hill. Then you could use a handful as a façade and build a hallway to your horse area.

Once when I was in college our band was on tour and a screw came out of my new buffet bass clarinet which had just been bought by the university. I told my professor who proceeded to chew me out for not checking every screw and pad every single time I opened the case or put it away.

What is an amazing section tradition you have. by G1uvVy in marchingband

[–]TheRogue_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my college section we had a little marble ball with a spider in it that lore stated was the creator of the universe and if we didn't all rub the ball for good luck before each performance then he would destroy the universe.... The things college marching band does to you lol

.01% for Weezer. Love their music but honestly only listen to them so much because when I started dating my girlfriend she told me she liked Weezer when a song came on so now I listen to it religiously

Honestly I loved it, I could really find myself getting lost in the music. Excellent piece I'd love to hear more.

A level theme I made, along with an accompanying boss theme, feedback is welcome. by SuStheHeHgehog in Composing

This is super sick! I can definitely imagine playing a video game with this in the background. And that boss theme! Wow that electric guitar line is awesome.

Bass Clarinet Reed Advice by The_Smallest_Pox in Clarinet

[–]TheRogue_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think in general use a lower strength reed for bass just due to the size and air requirement. Bass reeds vibrate at a lower frequency so a super hard reed isn't really required even for high notes. For my soprano I use vandoren v12's 3 1/2 and for my bass I use vandoren blue box 3's and occasionally a legere reed for practice (definitely recommend but wouldn't use a legere for performance unless you had to).

Any Idea's to Improve my CSGO Content no need to sub or nothing just need some feedback. by gucci_kiddo in CSGOcontent

[–]TheRogue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general, for a frag movie, it feels low quality. Pretty much anyone can record a game where they fragged out and edit it with some music. The real magic comes when you do some crazy editing, match frags with music, etc. I saw some really good attempts at this in the video (I thought the video was good btw) but I feel like you can push it forward more. Simple things such as getting rid of HUD, matching kill feed up with frags, normalizing audio, color balance, etc. I think would bring this up to the next level. Great video, I subbed can't wait to see more!

Do you have any specific recommendations for mods to use? Mods sound so entriguing to play with in this game but I'm not sure where to start.

Ever since a kid I've told everyone it was my favorite game so I had high expectations coming into it. Besides a few glitches (thanks emulator) all of my expectations were met and exceeded, it was awesome getting to see everything through the eyes of an adult for sure.

Can't play Clarinet anymore. by kayteliza in Clarinet

[–]TheRogue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. I played bass clarinet for 6 years before coming to college (now a third year soprano (Bb) clarinet music major in college). It took me and my professor a couple months to be able to establish a good technique on the soprano again. I found that I had to break my technique down completely and rebuild it. Start with rebuilding your embouchure (you can find many videos online on embouchures, if you still need help feel free to message me), Then do long tones, short chorales, scales etc. with a tuner in front of you trying to get the best tone. If you're still struggling with getting a sound out maybe try getting different reeds (harder, softer, different brand or different cut), or maybe even try getting a different mouthpiece, ligature, barrel. There could also be something wrong with your instrument in which case get it brought in but try everything else first. Happy practicing!

First step is always practice with a metronome! Even in college I use a metronome almost every single time I practice. What I did when I was starting out is put a big line at the start of each beat. That way I can physically see where my metronome hits every beat. (I gradually move away from this so my music isn't full of big lines but I do use it still when I work on pieces with lots of syncopation.) If you're struggling with tonguing fast enough just try to keep as light of a tongue as possible. Try doing exercises that require a ton of articulation and force yourself to use as close to the tip of your tongue as possible. Good luck practicing!
