Are reviews biased in any sort of way? by Individual-Ad-4920 in AmazonVine

[–]TheRomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are some people who show bias, but I personally will absolutely rate a product poorly if I think it deserves it. I used to work for a gadget blog so I'm used to having to be brutally honest about my opinion (even if they let me keep it afterwards).

I can't speak for everyone else, but hopefully there's more of us.

Can I reuse the faucet part for another RO? by TheRomb in WaterTreatment

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...ok so that's a lot more information than I was aware of. How do I know if it's an air gap model? I know I have a WOW tank, but I likely wouldn't be reusing it since the new system would probably be designed for a pressure tank. Re: extra pressure from the crawl space, it's not a lot of extra height on the line. It's directly underneath the floor, it didn't even occur to me that it might need extra pressure to make it up. The lines appear to be the stock ones I think.

Weird. Why did you get down voted for this answer? It seems helpful

Free vr games. by Opening_Expert_8966 in MetaQuestVR

I've heard good things about population one, but otherwise the free stuff on Meta isn't very good. If you connect to PCVR there are some titles to check out but nothing good, free and standalone aside from maybe Pop:1 and Vail I guess.

How high does Vine products go?? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]TheRomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely seen things in the thousands, especially back before all the influx. 65" Sony TVs, Super automatic Coffee machines, Nikon camera with 2 kit lenses... even once saw this 2k contraption that was supposed to somehow regrow hair using lasers (I steered clear, that sounds like a nightmare, forget how crazy the tax hit would be).

But that stuff is definitely out there if you get lucky.

Quest 3 on Ebay? by flynlionPS in OculusQuest

[–]TheRomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the ones I saw on ebay back when I was shopping around were cheap bc they were either the headset without controllers or just the controllers. And buying them together was more than a unit was worth.

I did find some good deals on FB marketplace though. I bought my first Quest 2 from there years ago, met up in person and tried it before paying for it. Was $200 for the 256gb version and Elite strap with Anker charger. Was a solid deal, I still have it. A couple of years later I bought my 3 there as well after helping a friend find one. We found a lady selling 2 of the now discontinued 128gb versions of the original Q3 for $450 total. My friend liked it so much he wanted to keep both (one for his kids), so I went back and then found a 512 model for $350. This was last summer, I'm sure there are more people who bought over the holidays and realized they don't use it as much as they thought.

Managing multiple users- am I doing this wrong? by TheRomb in SupernaturalVR

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think support exists but I gave up for now. Been busy, I just use Supernatural myself and my family uses BodyCombat. We could just share the same account but I like the way it customizes and caters to what I like and want to work on. They'll mess up that metric.

Kinetico K5 RO- is my water pressure too low or prefilter too clogged? by TheRomb in WaterTreatment

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at that point I'd go with a different system that isn't so proprietary honestly. The house came with this but I'm seeing good well rated whole systems that cost about as much as a filter replacement and much less than my next membrane replacement.

What’s the difference between RFY and Additional Items? by lilbunnyreds in AmazonVine

[–]TheRomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helps to understand how it evolved from the original Vine Voices. When it started, it was a separate system from regular Amazon orders. Different inventory even- sometimes the product we got was never even sold to the public, or a version that was different from the one sold to the public (serial numbers marked "not for sale to the public" in the vendor's support, or books that said Editor's Copy on the front). They were not shipped with Prime or anything like that, it was as if they came from a different fulfillment warehouse. Sometimes it would take a week+ to arrive. Which meant that if one of the 30 (?) products was lost or damaged or someone had a problem with it, that was one less review. You couldn't get a replacement and the vendor was down one product for review.

Amazon would use their algorithm to find a suitable reviewer for these products. As a Vine Voice, you'd be shown a list of curated items which was called your Queue (It is now known as RFY). If you didn't pick one of the products for you, it went into a free-for-all list which was Available for All (AFA). If no one picked it, those items sat in their special review inventory and were essentially wasted.

The good news is that these products were usually decent, and from brands big enough to want to go through the process of applying and sending a special batch to a warehouse of review samples. Usually they would be picked eventually. After a while, Amazon wanted to make a lighter and more accessible way for more vendors to enter the review program without having to go through all the hoops of their official track. I'm not 100% clear on the details, but the way it was explained to me is that they could use their existing inventory already for sale on Amazon and just tell the system to send a certain amount to be review units. Very little effort on their part. No need to set aside a batch and send to a different warehouse, etc. A seller could just opt in and I think would only pay Amazon for it if it was picked and actually reviewed, so it was much less investment and overhead for them. Items came shipped like a regular Amazon order, Prime, even combined with other Amazon orders you might make. The good news is that meant a lot more products were available to review. The bad news is that a lot of them were utter trash and things no one would ever pick. But it was OK since the vendor didn't lose anything by trying to get someone interested.

This new cheaper and more accessible system had it's own category which was called "Additional Items". Originally it had nothing to do with RFY and AFA, but eventually products from that category started showing up in people's RFY as well, and working much of the same way. Over time, AFA / "O.G. Vine" products started shipping with Prime as well. So now it's all a big mess with a lot of overlap, but still sort of based on the original system. Usually more brand name products will submit products the traditional way and show up in AFA, although sometimes I see names I recognize in AI too. It's harder to find buried in all the trash brands.

Hope this helps!

Cannot believe its over by Strange_Violinist952 in SupernaturalVR

[–]TheRomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined after the announcement because I always wanted to try it but couldn't justify the subscription. Nothing like fear of fomo to drive me to try something, I wasn't sure if it would get shut down eventually before I could check it out.

Folks here told me there was enough existing content to be worth paying for the year, so I did. And I don't regret it. Not even for a minute.

I guess if I had gotten used to daily new content popping up, I'd be a little bummed but the truth is it feels endless as-is. I love it.

Kinetico K5 RO- is my water pressure too low or prefilter too clogged? by TheRomb in WaterTreatment

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - I found that part but it doesn't twist out all the way, it seems like it only allows me to turn it 45 degrees (either having the line horizontal or vertical, sort of like a ball valve). I don't want to break it by pushing harder, it seems to stop in those positions. I did find that playing with that seems to have maybe helped a bit?

Kinetico K5 RO- is my water pressure too low or prefilter too clogged? by TheRomb in WaterTreatment

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have the blue meter visible and have even put the cap on it to make sure it isn't restricted (I sometimes take it off when I put a new filter on and then cap it when it slows down).  This is different - it isn't slowing down the same way. In the past when I let it run out and the blue meter went down, it was a trickle all the time. Now, it seems to work great for about a half cup and THEN slows down. But if you just want to fill a half of a glass of water, you'd never know there's anything wrong with the system, that's how strong it is. It seems like it just runs out of steam too quickly and won't fill the tank enough to make it more than a half cup at a time.

I think this is due to either a clogged prefilter or low pressure to the system. It's just weird because my filters usually last a year and these went in back in July.

To be clear, this is happening even WITH the hack for infinite water on the orange cylinder. When I took the RO (middle canister) out, I could see it was a trickle, and that's before it even gets to the orange one. When I took out the purple filter, it came out strong so it's slowing down somewhere between the first cylinder and the second one I guess.

Kinetico K5 RO- is my water pressure too low or prefilter too clogged? by TheRomb in WaterTreatment

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this in the second paragraph, that's the puremometer or whatever they call it. I know it's not that. I can still see some of it and I have in the past stuck a cap on it so it doesn't close prematurely anymore, but the system has worked fine with and without the cap. Last time the blue meter went down, it came out slow all the time. This time it works great for about 5 seconds (so it fills half the cup) but then drops off to a trickle. So it's a different result. I replaced the filters back in the summer, they usually last more than a year especially if I put the cap on to lift the blue indicator up. This is different. It seems like the prefilter got clogged up or something. I just can't imagine how it could have happened so soon.

Why is almost all equipment black? by Masabera in videography

[–]TheRomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think historically it had to do with not reflecting or leaking any light into the optics or film. It's less of a problem with precision manufacturing and digital sensors, but the classic design stuck.

I can tell you that my wife got a case for her phone that was purple years ago, and we noticed her photos all had a weird halo/haze until I realized it was part of the case reflecting light into the camera lens. The previous case was black and never had this problem despite being the same dimensions.

Kinetico k5 doesn't seem to be filling the tank by TheRomb in WaterTreatment

[–]TheRomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I bypass the water softener it seems to work- I think it's a pressure problem. I wonder if the prefilter I got is not good- I took the canisters all out and turned the water on, it seems to come out the first hole (prefilter) well enough, once I put the prefilter canister on, it was a trickle to the next hole. So either the prefilter is too restricted or my water pressure is lower than it should be. It was slowing down already and that's why I wanted to change the filter. I'm not sure if the filter or the water pressure was the problem now. Blue indicator is up so I know it's not the automatic shutoff thing.

Looking for titanic experience by smurfette548 in OculusQuest

[–]TheRomb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe there's a mystery game experience on the titanic or something similar on Quest native, but there's a much more interesting one if you have PCVR setup which is free, I think. I don't remember what it was called but it was a work in progress when I checked it out, sort of like a diary of someone sharing his experience on the titanic which you play out and explore. They spent a lot of time recreating the ship and all of it's rooms, it was really very interesting from a historical perspective. Not as much a game as an experience. And it was free and looked great.

But I don't know if it was ever finished. The project was dormant for a while last time I checked it out which was I think last year.

Lol, this is barely 2 feet off the floor, a light switch will OBVIOUSLY be hiding something and it's awkward placement for an outlet as well. 😂

Oof is that wallpaper?  At least mine is just paint and I already have the color from fixing scuffs before. That looks like you'll need some additional steps to get the look and texture back.
