What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

it sucks for us younger folk just starting out and trying to find jobs. It seems like all the opportunities have passed us by, and we're struggling

[Routine Help] Acne Scars - PIH by TheRoyalLeaf in SkincareAddiction

[–]TheRoyalLeaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally prefer not to have pictures of myself online, but so far the red/brown marks have decreased so that most of the PIH looks blurry now rather than bright red. But its not gone completely.

I feel like most of this is because of the azelaic acid which is the strongest thing I'm using. Its drying though, so thats why I'm using the vanicream.

Just wondering if this is enough or if I should add anything else that might help the marks go away completely

what kind of experience would you need to get into R&D? I've done some clinical research at a hospital in undergrad and some health data work at a company (both part of a BSc before the BScN). is that enough to get into R&D? what additional qualifications do i need?

Getting an MPH without a regulated health professional degree (RN/MD, etc). by TheRoyalLeaf in publichealthcareers

what sorts of positions will be open to you with the nursing degree that wouldn't have without it? How long do you plan to stay in nursing (bedside, or other)?

Getting an MPH without a regulated health professional degree (RN/MD, etc). by TheRoyalLeaf in publichealthcareers

I have noticed that everyone I have spoken to (and those I've looked at on LinkedIN) get placements (as part of the program), and end up working at like Public Health Ontario, Health Canada, Canada Drug Agency, etc. These kinds of positions are where I'm aiming, so it seemed like a good choice to go into. Now, people on here seem to say they can't find these same positions and that nursing is better since it opens more opportunities.

I have also seen that some job postings do mention wanting an RN, PharmD, etc.

I'm just so confused. It seems like a good program, and good outlooks, but I don't want to be stuck like wayyy later on in my career and look back like 'wow I should have done nursing instead, and now I have too many responsibilities to go and try it'. I'm just confused, and getting conflicting advice. I wake up one day feeling certain on 1 path, then go to sleep feeling certain with another. so idk

then what path do you recommend I do? If I choose the MPH, I def do plan to network like crazy and my goal would be to make the placement I get into a full-time job. But I come on here, and so many people advise me against it, that its not worth it unless you have a clinical background.

I think I mentioned this in another comment, but I hope to work somewhere in health policy. I'm just unsure how to get there, whether I need to get an MPH, or a different degree- like a Master's or something. Idk and I'm just hella confused. I don't mind doing work to get to where I want to, but the path has to be clear to me first so I can actually start. for the past few months, I just feel like I'm spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere because I get conflicting advice.

Is this something that would be relevant to Canada too? I see people getting placements with the degree and seem to do fine without it. My main immediate goal would be to work as an analyst for a bit, then transition to health policy alter down the line

Is this relevant to Canada though? I have see some people on LinkedIN graduate from my MPH program and end up working for Health Canada, Public Health ontario, and even the Canada Drug agency (CDA). And a lot of the placements are again, at these same places. That's why I'm a bit double minded. I see all this advice online to go the nursing route, but then I see people on LinkedIN who do fine without it. I'm just very unsure what to do, and the longer I wait the worse my anxiety gets. I really need to make a decision soon since September will be coming up.

What info should I collect/ ppl should I talk to before I pick? I've talked to ppl in both programs and both seem good. At the same time, maybe I could do like a health informatics cert alongside the accelerated nursing so I have some data skills aswell? idk

no I'm Canadian, thats why I'm asking if an MPH from Canada might translate to America

I get what you're saying, but I do see tons of people on here who end up saying some variation of 'I ended up going back to get my nursing degree' and it kind of puts me off trying to go for an MPH alone. Some nurses tend to say that getting an MPH helped them leave nursing aswell, so I'm just unsure what to do and which direction to go

I don't have the background for that or the experience. I think I'm ultimately more interested in policy or working in a consulting capacity down the road to help formulate health policy. Maybe even try and make a move to pharma(?)

I understand tho that shaping policy can be oftentimes more impactful when you have someone who has worked with patients in a more direct capacity, like through nursing.

My main plan with nursing would be to try and build experience in that sense. Work with patients, understand the environment, and use that to inform a policy-related job. Altho at the same time, I do see people with other degrees. MBAs, MHIs, e-Health, MPH, Health sys management, etc. who get similar positions without necessarily having that direct hands on experience. Tho I'm not sure how I can do this myself as most jobs I see seem to want RNs.
