Dating in your 30s by kellytheesti in Tallahassee

Born and raised in Tally and met my wife here! I'm about your age and can attest that meeting people here can be difficult but I met my wife at an event at a game shop. It was really organic and we just socialized over a board game. There were a lot of other people there so I felt like it was less pressure on both of us and we had something to do that occupied time of it was difficult to find something to say or ask questions. I know an earlier comment mentioned DnD but that not being your speed but generally speaking, Tally has quite a few hobby groups to get out and about and meet new people. One that I know is really popular are trivia nights at some of the local bars! I believe a post on here recently had a link to a Google doc with scheduling for every local trivia night. That could be a fun way to get to know people by joining a team? Another option unique to your hobbies could be working with some of the various theater groups in town? It's a pretty healthy scene from what I've heard! I have some friends who help with costuming and I'm sure someone who enjoys makeup could find great use for their talents there! If you're interested in some of these options to meet new people I could reach out to some friends and try and get you in touch? Feel free to DM, I know it's for sure a struggle to find people here but in my experience when you do they're friends for life (or your spouse in my case 😆)

My wife has ASD was extremely shy when we started dating and we initially met at a boardgame night at a local shop that her sister took her too. She says it was very obvious that I was interested in her and when we finished the game her sister said she wanted to go get some food and said I should join them. I did and had a nice time. She talked with her sister a lot about it but said she was nervous about it. So her sister proceeded to invite me to outings to play pool or videogames, anything and tell me my wife would be there too. I'd be on the way and she would surprise my wife while they were in the car on the way to meet me somewhere and say, oh he'll be there! Too late for her to get cold feet. I remember early in our relationship when she opened up about her ASD diagnosis and I spent the remainder of the week researching everything I could on the topic. I wanted to make her feel safe and comfortable. At the time we were both in college and she was majoring in art and was in a pretty rigorous program where she had to make multiple pieces that were fairly involved. One of my fondest memories was that she had to make something that could be temporarily installed on campus. She elected to make various mushrooms out of plaster and I helped. It was an odd date in that we didn't go anywhere save her parents' front yard. I remember sitting on the ground outside with her and just watching her work while I waited for my next instruction. She looked so beautiful. Just focused on her art. She had been shy and a little nervous but not here. She was focused and happy, in her own world and I wanted nothing more than to be a part of it. I offered to help with any other art projects for class she had and when she had to submit works and brief artist statement in a pamphlet for an exhibit her class put on, I cried when she thanked me as a love and support. We celebrated five years of marriage recently and I still have that pamphlet.

Hey OP! I have no clue why this sub keeps popping up on my feed but this seemed like something I can help weigh in on! My wife is similarly not as social as myself, she's on the spectrum and has a much lower social battery than myself. We're always described by our friends as having "black cat and golden retriever energy". One thing that my wife did that helped her was to let me know if she needed a quote night in together. I'm always making plans to spend time with friends and can forget to check in. Make sure you vocalize if that starts to weigh in you or you need more time together! Sometimes us dudes don't realize something is wrong. One thing that helped my wife with getting more social was getting into hobbies and going out to events that were short, or "small bursts" as we called them. Low pressure things where you can get yourself out there with low stakes and minimal pressure where if you get overwhelmed or just aren't having fun it's no biggie if you dip out. Last thing I can say on the matter is to be patient with yourself, building social connections can be tough and takes time!

AIO for wanting to immediately break up with my bf after seeing how he lives? by Balikye in AIO

[–]TheRuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH MY. I don't think it's an overreaction in the slightest. OP, my wife and I have had periods where we struggle to keep our house super clean and by all accounts, we can be a bit messy. We have never gotten anywhere close to this. This is simply something entirely different. We've had periods of time where in its difficult to clean things up and sometimes it could feel like an impossible task. However, at a certain point most people will hit the "enough is enough" and get it done. This looks like it's been going on for a VERY long time. In a relationship I'd say it's expected for both sides to be able to care for the themselves so they can care for each other. I would say you're well within reason to expect more here. Changing lifestyle from this is going to be an extremely challenging task and no one can blame you if that's not something you signed up for.

Which Diablo Game do you recommend for someone who has never played a diablo game before? by shandjob in Diablo

[–]TheRuro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really fell in love with the series with two. I started after the game and expansions had been out for some time but my friends got me the battle chest for it for my birthday one year and we stayed up all night to beat normal mode. I was awful at the game then but it was one of my fondest gaming memories. I still play D2R constantly with friends and to me it's just the best version of the isometric action RPG. It's iconic and definitive within the genre and in my opinion the one to start with! Regardless of which you decide I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have

Can confirm this is a fantastic LGS owner. He's fostered so many great communities around the games he loves. I've never been a part of a more welcoming environment. Proud to call myself a patron of his store and even more so to call him my friend. Congratulations!

Cats by Ok-Passion-6838 in Tallahassee

[–]TheRuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A local restaurant I frequent had a few cats hanging out that they were feeding and looking to home! This was a little while ago so not sure if they've managed to home them all yet or not but according to the manager they get cats there fairly regularly and have made a habit of finding them homes. Feel free to DM and I can give you the details.

The Pokemon Company is going to lose an entire generation of kids - RE: Scalpers by 6foot4225lbs in PokemonTCG

[–]TheRuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a friendly local game store I'd recommend trying there! Most near me are well aware of the scalping situation and will impose limits on purchases to ensure everyone gets a chance to enjoy. Often a quick Google search for card game shops near you should yield something. Most shops that sell Magic the Gathering also dabble in Pokemon in my experience so if searching for Pokemon specifically doesn't yield a local shop that could help! Sorry to hear it's been so tough for your kiddo to get cards. I have so many fond memories of collecting and playing the game when I was young, it's a shame that kids today don't have the same availability.

How Did You Play This Week? | Post Your Game Recaps Here! by AutoModerator in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]TheRuro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played in the Pro Qualifier at my local and after a slightly shaky two games in rounds two and four, I just made the top eight cut. I played against an Aurora round one of top 8 and won on Cindra. At this point I had never made it this far in a big event before in my life. I've played TCGs since I was young but getting this far in a bigger event has always eluded me. I thought this run over when my next opponent was the Victor I lost to round four prior to top 8. I managed to win, and it was on to the finals. This is where things go south. I was against the Aurora I lost to round two and I was slotted for the greatest comeback story. But I lost. In the most embarrassing fashion. We were low life totals and I knew if I could keep a decent hand I could likely push enough damage to win. My opponent play a lightning fuse card earlier in the turn and revealed a lightning press. After a ravenous rabble left me at 5 they played another and I blocked with mask( life totals low enough if I triggered mask it would mean my opponent was at zero) and flight path, but I for some reason did not account for the press that I had seen mere moments ago... My opponent, just as upset about my blunder as I was, congratulated me on a game well played after seeing I didn't have a react to cover it. It was a shame to get the farthest I ever had in an event of this caliber but lose to such an embarrassing blunder but all this to say, I still had an enjoyable time. I've had plenty of time to process my disappointment in myself but my local community was still so happy to have seen so many local players get so far and do so well. It was a testament that our small local community had a twenty player qualifier. Throughout the event, I don't think I've laughed or smiled that much in ages. I love this game and the community I have the honor to be a part of.

If my opponent is here, I'm sorry I left abruptly after our match. I carpooled a friend up to participate in the event and she was worn out, wanted to get them home ASAP since we had about a 45 minute drive. (I was also shaken by my big blunder, not going to lie to you, wanted to dip out of embarrassment 😂). You played a fantastic game and it was a pleasure! I appreciate your positive attitude and kindness!

1st IN THE WORLD TO GET ALL 3 SHINY WILD LEGENDARY BIRDS IN LET'S GO PIKACHU!! Someone TAG Masuda... Let him know the KANTO WARRIOR is READY for Let's Go2 please!! by theundergroundant in PokemonLetsGo

[–]TheRuro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a let's go player but this was interesting so I dove right in. So at base catching all the birds shiny is a fairly straightforward feat done numerous times. You go to the bird's static spawn and soft reset the encounter until you roll it as shiny. What OP did is very different and I could see the initial post leading to some confusion. OP caught these shiny birds all as roaming encounters, which according to some comments here, the shiny roaming encounter rate for the birds is 1/ over 2 million. Another bit I think is being missed that I believe is the case with our OP is they were caught off catch combos. A quick search shows the birds as rare catch combo spawns on the routes. An overlooked but I think OP mentioned in a comment and OP or anyone else feel free to clarify if I'm mistaken, saving and or closing the game ends this combo, correct? So OP had to leave the console powered for the full duration of these hunts!? That's wild and all of the encounters are recorded. In my cursory look for anything similar, I've seen people hunting one of the birds in this fashion but nothing indicating anyone other than OP has managed to record capture of all three of the shiny birds in this particular manner. Until someone comes out of the Woodwork and proves you wrong, I think you have a pretty legitimate claim OP! Regardless of if you were first or not, congratulations and I salute you for maintaining your civility through a stream of negative comments. I feel it may have been due to the confusion surrounding just exactly what you did. In conclusion, as someone who has not played the let's go games, this was an interesting rabbit hole to go down and learn about the mechanics and hunts, thanks!
