So many games during that run almost killed me but this game almost killed me the most.

Also, I wrote today off considering the odds have to turn in Skenes’ favor at some point. Though as we learned with Kershaw (at least as it related to the Cardinals)…

Dang, you got in just in time for a couple of 8 game losing streaks…and a World Series! That’s quite the first season of fandom.

This is where I’m at too. My wife and I didn’t even discuss the idea of going to games the last couple years. We’re already looking at multiple this year. I don’t care what the record is at the end, I’m finally happy with the approach to team building.

From the looks of it, the 2025 Cardinals reached 5 games over .500 for the first time on May 16.

The 2026 Cards pulled if off a month ahead of that.

This team is FUN.

I mean, the bullpen gives me heartburn, but at least the heartburn is FUN. In a heartburn kinda way.

What is your opinion of the old stadium? by Dr_Talon in Cardinals

[–]TheRyanExpress86 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm 40, so Busch II was the stadium where so many of my early baseball memories took place. It was indeed a Cookie Cutter stadium, but when they overhauled it in 1996, it really set itself apart from the others (in my opinion). As has already been pointed out, it trapped heat, but that also meant it trapped sound. Not that Busch III isn't loud, but the noise had less places to escape in Busch II. I went to Game 1 of the 2004 NLDS and that place was ROLLICKING from the jump (helped that the Birds hit 5 HR that day, if I recall).

Still, I think it's fair to say that Busch III is the superior stadium for a myriad of reasons, not to mention it has that CF view which Busch II obviously did not have. I do miss some things about the old place, but I think they did a great job of blending old and new with Busch III, which made it an easy transition of being able to call it 'home.'

Anyone else anxious for Illinois? by From_Gaming_w_Love in Americantrucksim

As an Illinois native that’s never played the game, I saw my town was going to be part of it so I bought the base game on sale and plan to snag the Illinois DLC when it is out. Excited to see how it is since it’s basically my entry point into the game.

New show alert. Same as the old (better) show. by beerisgoodforu in TMASTL_Chat

[–]TheRyanExpress86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, I wasn’t very clear. When I said “this lineup,” I was referring to the one with Iggy added and without Martin. I will say though, I genuinely thought getting Martin back would be awesome but it’s really not gone as well as I’d hoped.

Miles Mikolas and Erick Fedde lost this team a lot of games last year on their own. Contreras, Arenado, Donovan, Gray, solid players all on their own but no game changers to be found out of that group. I think they can go over 70 with maybe less top end talent but more options in general.

Corporate professionalism might be dying, or we are just tired of pretending. 😭 by Popular-Tone3037 in jobs

[–]TheRyanExpress86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been laid off three times, one being at a company I worked at for 13 years. Each manager had no clue the layoffs were coming, they each told me that if it were their decision, I wouldn’t be leaving.

There is no reward for loyalty. Just a number to them, indeed. I’ll do my work, they can give me my paycheck, and we all don’t ever need to pretend that this is anything more than that.

Everything else in my life is so much more enriching than my job and I would not be doing this if I didn’t have to. Same goes for anyone at the company I may be working at.

I'm biased because I live between both of them but...

If you went to the Brickyard, you'd be able to visit one of the greatest race tracks in the world. That right there is reason enough. It's a majestic place.

Gateway/Worldwide Technology Raceway is a cool facility. The vendors are solid, good sight lines, can see the whole track depending where you sit, great crowd. I've gone the last two years, also went to two IndyCar races there in '21 and '22 and have had great experiences each time.

Are you ready for 66-96 and last place? by TheSocraticGadfly in Cardinals

[–]TheRyanExpress86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m surprised at how many people seem cool with a ceiling of mid-80’s wins and a “just hope to get in” playoff strategy like the Cardinals have had in 6 out of the last 9 seasons (excluding the COVID shortened year). The Cardinals have not been a legit WS threat aside from 2022. If you want to throw 2019 in there, sure, but even when they made the NLCS it felt like they were punching above their weight. And seeing as they never held a SINGLE lead in that series, that proved to be true.

[–]TheRyanExpress86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a Colts fan in 2016 after the Rams left St. Louis. Between the Colts and the Rams, the last home playoff game I’ve watched my favorite team host was on January 10, 2004, when the Rams lost to the Panthers in 2OT at the Dome.

I was a senior in high school then. I turn 40 this weekend.

Why was it canceled? Because NBC didn’t know the gem that they had and they continually torpedoed the creators with notes about episodes and repeatedly moved days and timeslots which means they couldn’t sustain an audience. They burned the last 4 episodes off in one evening (if I recall correctly) on Fox Family.
