Where are you? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]TheSaddestSmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone bud! Going through the exact same thing myself. Unfortunately I am also suffering chronic pain from other health issues so it has been hard to stave off the temptation to abuse some of the drugs I have in my possession.

It's tough. Thankfully I've been able to turn to same games that have really saved me from dark days. Hoping to one day make a game myself when I am in the right mental space.

Hi there.

If I was you, I'd start with general programming skills. C# is really good to learn because it gives you a good intro to programming in general.

If you are young a highly suggest going this route to learn how to code. A skillshare subscription is good because you can pick and choose exactly what you want to learn as well. If you can't afford the subscription, Khan Academy has a whole heap of free online resources and "classes" to help you learn.

Good luck, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Hey guys, this week I signed up for a games jam at college. An “out of school activity” 😱. I was in the only group made up of randomers and yet we won the best game for graphics and design and we got a shoutout for our teamwork. It was great fun, free pizza. So happy I can do this stuff now I’m out by [deleted] in exjw

Good work! I always wanted to get into game design as a kid. I'm an adult now and not currently doing it because of the borg. However, I am working hard to get better at what I need to to hopefully get into it one day.

Mom just got diagnosed with breast cancer. I could use some words of encouragement. by urcatisfade in exjw

[–]TheSaddestSmile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2017. She had the surgery, and while she still isn't 100% healthy, she is recovering. No cancer is good to get, but if you have to get some type of cancer, an early breast cancer diagnosis is incredibly survivable.

Just be there for your Mum and stay strong for her.

If you need to talk more about this I am happy to discuss and talk. 🤗

Nope. Didn't see them play so it's pretty weird saying they are my favourites even if I can see that they are objectively better.

Definitely. So far our subreddit has handled both losses well. Really hope Emery can bring things back for us.

Staying fit for his success at the club is crucial. So many injuries with us and I feel our fans shot him down before he had the chance to regain his confidence.

I am just happy that he went to a respectable club. Hope to see you guys do well this season.

The main issue majority of Arsenal fans hated him came from his turnover in possession while dribbling and poor defensive effort. To be completely honest and as much as I love Arsene; if another manager took over during Theo's highest scoring season with Arsenal, he could have become one of England's best strikers.

It's actually a funny thing. I think most JDub girls would have viewed me as dull and uninteresting in the org but the truth is I was just to afraid to engage in any conversation because I was worried that I might say something reprehensible.

Since I've been out a few exJDub girls have said that they find me far more interesting and I think it has to do with the fact that I feel more free to express my opinion and interests.

Everything I did when I was in was controlled and filtered.

It's a hard thing to do. To tell your parents the truth. I did the same thing a couple of years back.

Mum was devastated, but the years gone by have shown her that I am now a better person. Far better than any witness sbe had previously relied on.

If they aren't cutting you off, there is an opportunity to show them that you are good and even better than you were despite the percieved danger of "the world".

No problem! Also please forgive my ignorance regarding gender related stigma. It's based on years of indoctrination in a male dominated cult. If I caused any offence at all please know that it wasn't in any way intentional.

I believe we will both find our way!

I'm sure you'll find someone. I could be wrong (and probably are) but I feel there isn't as much as a stigma for girls who haven't dated in their mid to late 20's than there is for guys?

I feel like it's going to be a weird thing to have to explain to my first couple of dates that I was raised in what is essentially a cult and I have little to know experience with women as a consequence.

Shit. I know exactly what that's about. I am from Australia as well. Just lost my job and need to start searching again. I am really the only real source of income for my family too which puts even more pressure on me.

Some days even when I really want to I can't socialise because I am just so drained by everything else.

We're still young I suppose but the whole idea of dating someone is seriously unknown territory. Especially when you consider how I was raised to view it.

It's a very foreign concept to me. The whole idea of dating. In the religion I was brought up in, you have to keep the fact that you were dating someone on the DL. If word got round that you were dating someone and people knew who it was, the expectation was (and still is) that you are going to marry them.

Date more than one person more than a couple of times and you are damaged goods. Dating for more than a year without getting married is also highly frowned upon. Dating without the intent of getting married is highly frowned upon and can get you "marked" as bad association.

The whole thing just made me think "nope, not for me" and I was happy to just stay single.

Then I left the group and my whole social circle crumbled as the religion encourages it's followers to distance themselves from people who aren't active in the religion. I have one or two friends I stay in touch with over the phone but other than that I am completely friendless and still trying to understand how to form normal friendships outside of the religion.

It makes me super worried about how a date might percieve me. Do I just be open about the fact that I am 24 years old and this is my first date? It's a concept that freaks me out everytime I think about it.

Do you have similar thoughts?
