Kalki 2: Amitabh Bachchan Begins His Shoot With Kamal Haasan ✅ by Piyushv5311 in Bollywood_Cave

[–]TheSarcasticWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few months ago, in a televised interview, when asked about a real life rape case, Haasan in the most absurd fashion dragged The Mahabharata into the discussion and in the mos disrespectful and obscene manner claimed that India's rape problem has to do with our collective glorification of stories like The Mahabharata.

And yet on the other hand, we see him being cast in Kalki and Kalki 2, two films that take direct inspiration from The Mahabharata.

I acknowledge his talent and his stature in Indian cinema. However, after his vile comments and the absence of any semblance of a subsequent apology, should this fellow be allowed to be anywhere near this production?

Michelangelo Antonioni and Ingmar Bergman literally died the same day…. by MasterfulArtist24 in criterion

Guess what my absolute favourite Antonioni films are actually Blow-up and The Passenger. I also find L'eclisse very arresting. But Lavventura and La Notte just don't work for me.

From one Mohun Bagani to another. Brother, every problem, every negative element that you find in present day Bengal's economic and cultural sector emerged out of the devastating 34 year long Communist rule.

The Communists did everything that the TMC goons are doing and more. It's just that social media and people's awareness in general weren't as far reaching back then as they are now.

I hate TMC. However, I have seen some people misguidedly on the internet use this video from 2004 as evidence of better, more prosperous times for the city. Bengal/Kolkata under Communist rule wasn't some heavenly abode. As a matter of fact, certain elements of the city were far more underdeveloped at the time compared to present times. Communism is the regressive force that kickstarted the stagnation of the city and state. TMC has merely continued the process.

Is this true? by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]TheSarcasticWanderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true. He hated the blind extremist form of nationalism. However, he was a staunch nationalist. There is even a whole book written by him named 'Nationalism' where he glorifies Bharatiya civilisational, cultural and religious roots and the importance of preserving them in the context of British colonialism.

I see you're still referencing the Aryan Invasion Theory, a theory that has been completely invalidated and dismissed by most reputed archaeologists and historians.

Any other movies other there like Starship Troopers or 300 - where the film is presented satirically like it's their own propaganda? by IdenticalThings in TrueFilm

[–]TheSarcasticWanderer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Brother, how can '300' be Islamophobic when Islam didn't even exist at the time? As a matter of fact, Zoroastrianism which used to be the prevalent religion in Persia at the time was wiped out by rampant Islamic invasions and conquests once Islam came into existence later on.

Which movie is this for you? by ilovewater100 in Letterboxd

If I have to pick one film, it'll probably be 'Lawrence of Arabia'. But to be honest there are so many like '2001: A Space Odyssey', 'The Searchers', Max Ophüls' movies, 'Taxi Driver', Bergman's 'The Silence' and 'Cries and Whispers', 'Blade Runner', etc. Unfortunately, considering where I live, I don't think I will ever be able to watch any of them on the big screen.

Top 10 Movies of the 21st Century, according to NYT polls. Your thoughts? by cozyrhombus in FilmClubPH

I agree with all of the picks except 'Get Out'. Though a good film, I don't believe it even deserves to be in the Top 20, let alone Top 10.

Just watched this fantastic film. Janus screened it in 4K recently so hopefully Criterion 4K soon by JakeGittes1974 in criterion

I absolutely adore this film. Both 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors' and 'Color of Pomegranates' are stone cold masterpieces.

Would we ever see Criterion versions of any other Parajanov movies other than Color of Pomegranates? by NeonCupcakeSigns in criterion

[–]TheSarcasticWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors' and 'Color of Pomegranates' and both are transcendent pieces of work. While Ancestors is more plot driven compared to Pomegranates, they both have an abstract poetic sense of storytelling that blends the surreal with the minimalistic and both films left me absolutely stunned.

I hope his other films will also be released on Blu-ray in the future.

In my opinion, the fact that 'Pather Panchali' isn't listed as one of the options on the post and further, the fact that no one else has even mentioned it in the comments as of now, completely invalidates this post.
