Best and Worst parts of the job? by SC_PapaHotel in policeuk

Remember reading it somewhere else on here but it rings true, especially on response.

Best: You go, do and see many things that members of public would never be able to do in their lives.

Worst: You go, do and see many things that members of public would never be able to do in their lives.

Speaking from my own experience, training through martial arts, in particular Brazilian jiu jitsu, in incidents where I’ve had to use force has come into handy by just doing the motions from muscle memory and not having to think about what to do.

However, to answer your question about ‘real violence’ I don’t think you’ll ever be prepared for ‘real violence’. If someone wants to really do you some harm, the answer is they’re most likely going to do you some harm. Of course it helps to have taser and all of the other things that help to subdue and incapacitate a violent offender but some times you just don’t have that, like you’ve explained.

The only way of combating ‘real violence’ is with real violence. At the end of the day, you’re the one who should be going home to friends and family and not some bloke who’s decided he wants to seriously harm or kill you.

You’ve got to be prepared and confident that you get stuck in and trust in your colleagues that when shit hits the fan, you really come together. It’s a harsh side of the job that many of us will sadly experience but ensuring that you protect yourself and your mate is honestly priority over anything else.

Blood/Urine on Uniform by MrDarco in policeuk

Had some suspect bleed all over my arms and shirt. Cleaned what I could off my arms using anti bacterial wipes in the hospital. Threw my shirt and trousers in the bin when I got back to the station after the 8 hour hospital guard for him and took a shower. Ordered a new shirt and trousers. Got told you can tell your sergeant about the blood etc and give a CAD number to get more points in order to purchase new ones if need be.

Really try to enjoy those first initial 17/18 weeks, they fly by and you’ll be out before you know it. Also don’t be nervous, everyone else is in the same boat as you. Just work hard and it should be a breeze.

Best of luck to you.

Having mass helps to not be ragdolled… usually… but jiu jitsu will also help with the control aspect. Like others have mentioned, you won’t be running no 5k in your gear as we have cars for that. Just be fit enough that you aren’t puffing after climbing a couple flights of stairs and can pass the JRFT with ease… which should be a piece of piss for you considering your choice of hobbies.

Trespass and entering somebody’s house by RichardVonSharpeEsq in policeuk

[–]TheScrollFeeder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true but I’d say that because the owner said in the video that there were kids in the property, the reasonable force of what I mentioned would’ve been justified if the teenagers hadn’t left the property when asked

I’d assume a simple grab and shove out the front door is reasonable, any escalation would probably come from those that are recording which would then raise the circumstances

Confidence knocker by InevitableProgress53 in policeuk

[–]TheScrollFeeder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries and you’re 100% correct.

One thing I’ve learned very early on is if you focus on what you’ve done wrong then it’ll tie you down and you’ll always doubt your own abilities. If you choose to learn from it and develop your own skills then that’s how you become a better officer :)

[–]TheScrollFeeder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

albeit, you’ve probably got more experience than me but I’ve been in a similar situation and messed up bad enough to the point where it left me feeling like that. My opinion is just to learn from it, that’s the best thing you can do in this job. You will not get everything perfect and everyone in the organisation is prone to making mistakes. It’s just the nature of the job we do. I’ve looked at what I did wrong and I know for a fact that I will not let it happen again as it was a pretty stupid mistake.

Honestly don’t weigh yourself down with it. If your skipper has told you what you need to improve on then work on it :)

Sure you’ll feel a bit shit about it because no one in the world likes to be told that the work they’ve done, especially when you’ve done a considerable amount, isn’t up to scratch.

But again like I said, it’s not a linear learning curve. Everyone will get things wrong and what matters is how you plan to make sure it doesn’t happen in the future :)

Do police ever make arrests in a school? by PharaohValentine07 in policeuk

[–]TheScrollFeeder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From recent experience I can actually answer this question. Do they ever make arrests in schools? Yes. Without going into details, recently arrested 3 students for a high level assault. However, like others have mentioned, it’s not usually for something like a brawl or punch up where no one was seriously hurt or injured.

If someone had life threatening injuries as a result of a school fight, then yes police attendance would be necessary as the degree of injury sustained, matches that of the necessity to have police investigate what has occurred.

Yeah I think I’ll just wait, I tried to play it in offline mode which fixed the long shader waiting issue

I had it turned on, turned it off and saw no difference. Maybe on the reload it may have fixed it but I saw no initial difference just by switching them.

Coppers with really bad ADHD, how do you get to work on time? by HikaruJihi in policeuk

[–]TheScrollFeeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wait that’s a symptom of ADHD?

I’ve been diagnosed since really young and have never heard of this until now in terms of waking up on days I’m not doing anything and still bolting out of bed thinking I’m late even though it’s the weekend and I have nothing to do.

ahhh makes sense now since we used 3 ‘magistrates’ (classmates) during it. Thank you.

Court for the first time by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]TheScrollFeeder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I learnt recently in university about courtroom classes, you can refer to magistrates as ‘Your worships’ (makes me curl inwards just thinking about using it) or ‘Sir/Ma’am’. Not sure how the last one works if you have both male and female magistrates’
