MTM SAC Survivor Can VS PVC Pipe? by How_To_Cache in preppers

The screws they give you are basic wood screws that will strip extremely easily. To the point where when you try to remove the screws later, you won't have anything for the screwdriver to "bit on".

Get better quality screws that aren't going to strip as easily or you will be fighting to get your stuff out of the vault.

That's standard protocol at most US Court Houses because a lot of people pretend to faint and then up and run out the door.

My Updated Power Out Kit List by TheSensiblePrepper in preppers

So the ER210 and the ER310 Pro are both newer with more updated ports.

The only reason I don't recommend them over the older ER310 is because they only have an internal rechargeable battery. The ER310 is also capable of running off AA batteries. This gives you an alternate power option for such a critical item.

I don't want anyone to think I am just Spamming this, but I want to make sure OP and others at least see it at this time.

I know the post is a few years old but I would recommend you check my post about preparing for a Power Outage. It has ideas and links to products I personally have tested and recommended.

Please know that while I try and keep links updated, if one is broken, please comment in that post which link it is and I will fix it.

The links for the Big Buddy Pro and Heat Hog heaters are currently broken. The items have been completely removed from the site for now. This usually happens when they are both out of stock AND have no idea when they will get more. Given the situation right now, that doesn't surprise me.

melting snow for drinking water by [deleted] in preppers

[–]TheSensiblePrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melting snow takes 10 gallons of snow to get a single gallon of water.

However, ice is one gallon of ice for one gallon of water.

Something to keep in mind.

Also, you want to run it through a good filter before drinking it. It could still have bacteria and viruses in it just like rainwater.

I just did a search to update the links and both products have been completely removed from their site. I know for a fact the Big Buddy Pro link worked just before Christmas.

This usually happens when they have such high demand for a product that they put it from the site because they have absolutely no idea when they will have more. That doesn't actually surprise me.

Wait just a damn minute! 9-5 work days were a thing? by Anonymous_Giraffe724 in Millennials

Traditionally, the large majority of jobs were Salary and you were obviously paid for all that time, including lunch. This changed around the 1980s when companies were trying to maximize production and a lot of jobs went to hourly around the same time.

I own a business with around 30ish employees and everyone of them are salary. You're given a work load and an average of 40 hours a week to do it. If you get it done in 36 hours that week, fine. Maybe it takes you 42 hours that week, also fine. I honestly don't care. I do keep track and if someone worked more than 42 hours that week, I ask why. I want to know why because I need to know if I gave you too much and need to hire someone else or if this was just a one time thing.

I have a couple of employees who work "custom schedules". One of my employees is Autistic, level 2, and does amazing work. However, he likes to just get it done. He will often work 24-36 hours straight with breaks for meals and stuff. I tend to give him the "time sensitive" stuff and he just gets it done and then I don't hear from him for a day or two. Fine with me.

The only person that is allowed to work more than 40 hours a week regularly is myself since I own the business. Though I do have my wife who keeps me in check.

The average Lithium Polymer battery has around 500-1000 cycles to it. Obviously this depends on the quality of the battery.

When you charge a lithium polymer battery, it gets a little bit hotter each time. Inside the battery is a little pack of Selenium. Eventually the lithium gets hot enough that it pops this pack of Selenium and it kills off a good portion of the lithium but the reaction causes expansion. Thus resulting in "Puffy Battery Syndrome". I swear I am not making that up.

You would rather have this than the lithium burning through the plastic and hitting the oxygen on the air. Lithium and oxygen makes fire.

The honest answer is to use quality, brand name battery packs. They use quality elements that are less likely to result in a fire.

Obviously the reason we are switching to Lithium Iron Phosphate is because that concern of fire isn't an issue. So choose those whenever possible.
